im pretty sure if they leave the table, you win automaticaly. Either that or when the join the table again, the game resumes. I don't think that you just lose the game and reduce your rating.

I played 2 games of chess yesterday with my friend.
The first game I tried too hard to set up a defense and he managed to put me in checkmate very early after I had castled my king with my rook.
The second game I learned from my mistake and put him in danger early, so it turned into an epic battle and tensions mounted quickly. It all culminated to an incredibly heavy loss where I took his bishop, rook, and queen all while he took a knight, pawn and queen from me. By that time both of us were incredibly crippled, only a few pieces left on either side. It turned really boring really quickly and he ended up getting his queen back and I tried to find the quickest way possible to get myself into checkmate.
