Like I said, I don't care who comes anymore. Atlanta isn't a trance city. I'm just pointing out Zach's complaint in more detail since I'm fairly certain he and I are on the same page.

Did he not warmup for Armin in the past 12 months?

He warmed up for Armin in 2007...he's going to open for Armin this September again.

Glenn Morrison opened for Armin last time Armin was here.

Blake opens for Armin quite a bit actually.

Well I thought the point was "new" DJs in the last 2 years...headlining trance DJs to be precise. Blake doesn't really count since he was here 3 years ago...didn't headline...and doesn't exactly play trance when he is here.

I love his stuff though, don't get me wrong. He just didn't fit the criteria I think Zach was specifying.

Essentially, it means nothing.

It's like having 200,000 people out of 6 billion determining that Nickleback is the #34 band in the world.

I'm aware the DJ Mag poll is silly, and most of the votes come from agencies rather than fans, but he's still a well-known DJ. And he's more well known globally than 95.5 The Beat, I can tell you that much.

Anyway, Atlanta's problem has always been the lack of trance. House is popular, dubstep is popular, but trance is forgotten most of the time now-a-days. There are a ton of local house and dubstep DJs, but where are the local trance DJs?

I'm not saying it's Devin's fault, it's not. Any non-top 10 trance DJ fails to draw a crowd. Hell Cosmic Gate was at Opera last year (not a Liqufied event), and the place was DEAD. And this is freakin' Cosmic Gate!

I'm saying that when ATL finally does get a trance DJ in town that they can actually dance to (unlike Armin, since when he's in ATL these days there's no room to move), he gets run out of the club after a 30 minute set. That's just a slap in the face to trance fans.

Gareth Emery is just a good example. He's a name that has become popular recently and who even Charlotte has had. I know his name has been thrown around, but just as a reference point. Maybe I'm mistaken, I just thought trance was a bigger genre. Since names like Armin and Tiesto can outsell pretty much any other dj. Maybe it's not as much about trance as it is name recognition. I don't know. Quazar may be right. If you aren't in the top 10, you won't sell any tickets.

Also, to Devin. Have you considered looking at Soundtable or The Shelter as possible venues for some of the events?

Haven't been on this site in months. Glad to see nothing's changed.

I'm looking forward to checking back in a couple years when I'm done with grad school and seeing another "OMG Opera sucks" / "The ATL Scene is Dead" / "We need more [random sub-genre] DJ's" thread on the top of the page.

Until then, might I suggest (as I have repeatedly in the past) that you all give up on the superstar DJ thing and give some of your local's a chance? With the possible exception of trance, we have talented locals paying the same thing you'll hear from most internationally recognized DJ's. Given how readily available even exclusive/custom/unreleased/pre-release tracks/remixes have become, there's isn't much that most (some notable exceptions aside) international DJ's have to offer above your locals. Sure, as producers, they bring some uniqueness but when it comes to DJing... meh.

Why have you temporarily retired from DJing? Is it because the fans can't stop arguing long enough to pay attention to the damn sets anymore?
