LOL Adam, you could have spared everyone from your typical superiority complex diatribe had you read my post properly:

A little bit of both, I think. Take tracks like Hello Bleep, My R-Class and No Way! for example. Sounds like music robots would make, not humans. With the exception of the track I mentioned and the Chill Out tracks, it all sounds so cold, mechanical, hollow and well...dull to me. Maybe that's the point but then again, I've never been into this type of Ostgut Ton techno or dubstep so I don't know what the fuck I'm talking about. |
And since I know you're not an idiot (but surely enjoy pretending to be one from time to time), I know that you understood exactly what I meant with the music made by robots vs music made by humans comment but yet felt it necessary to pretend to not get it, build a ridiculous straw man argument around it and use it as a segue into your masturbatory rant about how great older music is and how you are super awesome for knowing about it.
As highlighted above, maybe the point of certain brands of techno is precisely to sound cold, mechanical, hollow, faceless, and machinelike. And maybe...just maybe, that is precisely why I don't enjoy it.

No, and I still fail to see what the 'proper' reading of your post is. Stop trying to save face. Gadi wouldn't even waste his time posting to people like me.

Wrong. The only argument made was that techno of any time period purports to sound like it's made by robots, and the 'human' music you support doesn't, but sounds like it's computer generated anyway.
Talk about straw men

Ok, let's try this again. What kind of brand of 'techno' do you enjoy that is warm, human, full, face-full, and anti-machine? Tell me what this techno is and what makes it enjoyable to you.

Well, that speaks numbers of your comprehension skills then, since JBJ and Adam420 grasped it immediately:

I thought that he was talking more about the sounds (lots of synthetic, "cold," metallic stuff) than about the arrangement or programming. |

Also, I believe he was referring to the sound aesthetic rather than the structure. |

No it wasn't.

This is a totally irrelevant tangent. Back to the topic: It's electronic music we're talking about. Techno even. Yes, it sounds it's made by robots. So does woscar-beat. Except the robots who make it are wearing gorilla suits and blackface. |

but seriously, i want to know if this is what makes it human for woscar - the idea that you can put a (funny) face to the music and party.
|
See? Textbook straw man. Let's take a distorted example of the topic in question, turn it into a generalization that is easy to ridicule and attack it.

Can't access YouTube and post samples here but I'll do later.

This post was not trashing anything at all, it's just telling it like it is. There is no loaded language, besides perhaps 'cookie cutter', which was used to identify a particular generic subset of music that sounds like it was made in a factory. Yes, it's true that I don't like the music particularly, but even as clovis said, it applies to 90% of the stuff rather well.
| quote: | I don't particularly see how the cookie-cutter 'tech house' music doesn't sound to woscar as if it's made by robots.
I mean, from a programming perspective it would be super easy to recreate automatically.
- utilize a particular, small bank of samples
- one measure basic tech house beat + bass that repeats exactly the same over the course of the track, perhaps with the addition of one loop somewhere in the track
- add a random 'ethnic' percussion loop on top
- put a breakdown somewhere in there with a white noise filter or loop on a lead line prior to a bass drop
- optionally add the looped recorded voice of a dead jazz, soul, or blues, or salsa musician, or a single repetitive jazz or disco sample.
- dj friendly intro/outro
- master/mix them all in the same way
or is it that tech house musicians make embarassing videos of themselves on drugs at music festivals that makes their music "human"? |
The last line was a shot at humor, and also trying to get at the whole anonymity question in techno music.
