The reason why this thread quickly went astray is because, even though your point is back up by cognitive behavioural therapies in general, pseudo-scientific literature such as the stuff from "What the Bleep do we know" and "The Secret" reduce this otherwise innocent idea to an outrageous and absurd exaggeration with bizarre metaphysical implications.

I'm an optimist, don't get me wrong, but the "benefits" of this existentio-mysticism are so pernicious I reckon you'd better just become a laborious optimist and ditch the unhinged metaphysics.
