In the beginning I was trying to just say the older songs were better with a small list.
Then here comes the elitists and say stupid shit like
"oh you don't know real Trance"
What are we all trying to prove anyway?
That I don't know shit about Trance?
Cause, I dont.
So fuck off, asshats.
My logic explains that I was still fucking watching Barney when the golden era of Trance exploded.
I got into Trance around mid 2007.
That is really late.

"Digging" for tracks doesn't have to mean looking for rare tracks. He probably meant "digging for older tracks". Not sure. If he was "digging for older tracks", then whether or not it was a hit doesn't matter.

You are an idiot, but then again we all knew it already.
Comon dude, he was clearly digging in years.
He came up with maybe the oldest actual trance track, and then he still gets shit on his face.

Sorry, but when someone refers to "digging", it does not mean taking a soil spade to the ground. This isn't to say there aren't some good tunes available on, say, ASOT: Classics - there are (including, shock, Age Of Love) - but you're not really digging for the gems when such a release is mass-produced and marketed for maximum sales potential ("HEAR: All the classic trance hits, now presented to you by ARMIN VAN BUUREN'S 'A STATE OF TRANCE'!").
Digging is when you stumble upon something like this on an old, forgotten compilation from the mid-90s:

So are you now more 'elite' because the guy pointed out a hitrelease, and you pointed out some unknown omg-underground track?
Also, what would happen if Armin included your omg-underground track on ASOT Classics 6? Will it then suddenly be crap and 'for the masses'?

I'd actually applaud Armin for showing some balls for a change.

Classic trance is not about the same damn trance classics everyone who's ever listened to trance knows about.. the term is merely a reference to an era for the early days of trance, roughly around '91-'96. Long before Gouryellas, supersaws, endless breakdowns and crystal clear produced emptyness took over the trance world.. but furthermore classic trance is not about the most underground tracks one could think of either. It's a combination of the two - there are lots of hits and real trance classics but also lots and lots of tracks only those know who lived through those times and grew up with the music or have later on dug themselves into it all.
There is very little to no chance to get any proper classic trance stuff on the ASOT classics compilations in the future apart from some obvious 1-2 thoroughly overplayed pieces.

Yeah, I always wonder why he just doesn't do it. I mean, with him being so famous and influential, I seriously doubt he has so much to lose if he took a u-turn in his playing and producing style.
Also, you do know you can send requests of him playing a specific track, you do know that, don't you? So I'm making a quite bold (?) suggestion that you (we?) guys can send him request upon request to play tracks like this one:

Someone who didn't get that isn't worth to be called an elite.
Your list was fine. Looking at my age and the time I have been listening EDM I must be elite enough to claim this.
To me classics also have to do with the popularity of a track, but that doesn't mean a classic is a classic everywhere.

There'd be no point in getting Armin to play an old record. Even if he did fit it into a mix without it sounded utterly incongruous, all the osterzones listening would just start complaining that it sounded too basic and rough and not actually enjoy the record for what it is.
