I like uplifting trance a lot, even the new stuff, but very few songs come close to the classics for me. ("Dream of You" is wonderful, though, I'm a big fan of that track)

To me, uplifting (and trance in general) was at its best when songs like these were the anthems:





Thrillseekers dropped this one last weekend, and I was almost in tears. It had been so long since I'd heard it on a club's sound system:

i miss the old formula of a breakbeat breakdown, i don't mind if the breakdown sounds properly, a part of the track without rythm but with some melodic interest, what i hate is that low db breakdowns filled with white noise.

This genre is dead, 1/100 tracks are really interesting the rest... crap.

Viola (AvB Remix) this is the kind of uplifting trance i like, now there is a trend of minor key tracks, it's fine but the same arpeggiated sad melody (sad in all the amplitude of the word) simply suck.

I agree with some of you around here, I'm also growing a bit tired of those orchestral breakdowns as well. Yes, it sounds romantic and cinematic, but if it's all you do, the spectacular feeling you got when you first were exposed, is going to wear off.

I'm hoping that producers will scrap orchestral breakdowns in favour of other types of parts-in-a-dance-track-you-don't-dance-to-in-order-to-gain-tension.

One idea might be to have a more synthesized breakdown with cosmic textures a la Jean Michel Jarre and Klaus Schulze.

Another idea might be to have a heavy metal sequence as your breakdown. This song could easily as well be the break in your common uplifter:


Or how about an 8-bit breakdown? Jazz-styled, anyone? Please, anyhting but three string lines harmonising eachother for a minute.

Think people will compare it with these even if it's not really in a breakdown like you suggest. But maybe it's worth a try

I ask myself the same question with those prog tracks on labels like mistiquemusic. Why can't they develop their melodies and harmonies without resorting to a dancefloor killing 2 mins breakdown?
