I don't know about you, but I was watching the tsunami live on TV... It was so fucking horrific it seemed unreal, you just couldn't comprehend that it was happening right at that instant...

On topic though, I really don't think its a big deal that Japan hasn't gotten as much donations as Katrina, and I think its a shame that they have gotten more than Haiti.

Japan is a modern, first world industrial and economic power with a robust and capable infrastructure and people. The US and Haiti are much worse off, they needed donations. Japan will come out of this stronger, where as New Orleans and the Gulf Coast as well as Haiti are going to be suffering for many many years (and already have in the case of Katrina) because of what happened.

I love this article, I just hate how right it is.

Hal, are there any Cracked articles you don't like?

I think you should write for them, you'd be really good at it. However, I'm not sure how one comes to be employed by the site.

The company who manufacture gore-tex work on that principle, and they open a new office/factory every time the most recent one contains more than a certain (fairly low) number of employees, say 90 or 100.

I had something like this in mind when I posted this thread (that's an important concept in evolutionary linguistics). However, we've been bombarded with images from the nami, and the numbers were suddenly people now. I wonder if this helped make some more difference between Haiti and Japan, or if "The Monkeysphere" alone can be enough to explain this difference.
