This thread is full of weak sauce.

If we're getting into American bourbon, check this out. I have 2 bottles of this stuff right now... one I opened and a 2nd one I plan on keeping sealed up for a looooong time.




A.H. Hirsch was the last pot still bourbon in America, and the distiller, which had been in business since 1752, burned down in 1990, which was the end of the company's run. This was the first and one of only a few Bourbons to get a 5 star rating. I bought the bottles for around $150 each 4 years ago, and they are retailing for $400-$500 now because the remaining supply is dwindling like crazy. Hopefully the unopened one will be worth a lot more in 10+ years. Most importantly, it's really fucking good! It'll knock you on your ass too if you're not paying attention after a couple glasses.

You could probably get Macallan 12 for around 60. That's a good one to start with.

I used to think so too till I got after some of that A.H. Hirsch 16 year. I still don't like other bourbons.

Hirsch is/ was decent. If we are doing bourbons as well. Pappy Van Winkle is very interesting in flavor.

My time in Louisville was not wasted. This order is just personal preference you either love or hate my top picks because they are bolder.

It definitely has been. I love it. The taste is so richly layered and smooth.

I've also had Yamazaki 12 year and Yoichi 10 year, but those, while more expensive, weren't as good imo.

Dalwhinnie, Laphroaig, Highland Park, Talisker, Bunnahabhain, Scapa are all very nice.

It doesn't have to be a malt to be a good whisky. Bailie Nicol Jarvie is a whisky I would drink again and again.

Blended Scotches can be very smooth and tasty, but they just don't have the complexity of a single malt. The taste is a bit lacking, as you pretty much get the same flavor every time you take a sip, whereas with Single Malts you can discover new hints of flavors with each sip.
