I think it's almost more unfair to have an outdoor cat; there are so, so many dangers that can end them. The place I am moving to soon, for example, has some of the highest police report rates for bears trudging through peoples' back yards in the state.

Cats can live long, happy lives inside, so long as they have a window and a nice place to sleep- man, that's the life. True, it's unfair to keep a cat used to being outdoors all the time, suddenly inside all of the time, but sometimes that's how it's gotta be.

Dogs, of course, need lots of space to run, and play, and shit, and do all of their doggy things. Most cats are pretty content to stay immaculate all of the time.

I just stop feeding my cats once the smell gets out of hand. And really? litterboxes? Boxes of dirt in your place? Barbaric!

that's kinda cool. if you have good litter though the smell isn't the biggest problem. for me, my cat likes to cover his piss and shit so he like kicks it around. i have to sweep my laundry room daily... he just tracks litter everywhere. little shit

So? It doesn't smell. Maybe it's not necessary for people living in small apartments, but we live in a 3 floor home, and the litter pan is in the basement. It's a lot easier to throw one big bag of shit/piss/litter out once a month or two than it is to throw one small bag out every 2 days.

I've lived alone since I graduated in '09. The neighborhood I live in is mostly huge houses that are split up into apartments. I've met all of my neighbors but I don't really ever interact with them aside from the occasional hello in the hallway. It's nice because I have a few friends who live within walking distance.

Definitely clean your place frequently though. There's nothing worse than living in a shit hole, and if you ever bring people home it says a lot about what kind of person you are by how clean you keep the place you live.

Also, the sooner you get into a house, not an apartment, the better. If you're looking for space that is. plenty of people are quite happy with Lofts and/or high-rise apartments or something. Me personally, having a backyard, driveway, no neighbors, and a place to really "call my own" is very important. Plus, mortgage rates are stupid low right now.

At this point in my life... 'house' and 'mortgage' are four-letter words to me.
Of course I know what you mean about having the space/a yard. This weekend or the next I'm gonna buy some plants / flowers for my balcony. I'm not sure if they'll get enough direct sun though (a bit shaded from trees for most of the day. the only period with lots of light is maybe 11am-3 or 4pm).

I'm 19 and I don't like living with my parents and 24 year old brother in a 1 bedroom. Whatever, the apartment is free. We're the superintendents.

My brother's a fuckwad for not saving money to buy an apartment somewhere else. We have free rent, cable, food (well our parents pay for it), laundry, homephone, etc. All of his money goes to his pocket and he blows it. He coulda saved 50k by now, his girlfriend saved some money, and my dad woulda helped pay for a house for him in New Jersey.

I can't wait till I get my CS degree and hopefully get a job where I can work from home. I wanna move to my summer apartment in Macedonia. I speak the language, I know everybody, I have family, I'm a block from the beach, 5min walk from the city center, and the life is easy there. Things are cheap. Husbands support their families in a 3 floor home with just 10k a year over there. Imagine me making 30k a year working from home. I'll live like a king.
