I don't think that "unconditional" love exists between most couples (and indeed probably a lot less so during the early phase, when people tend to be the most fickle and jealous!), but I also don't think that holding that up as your goal is realistic or likely to result in much long-term satisfaction.

It's always the people who have never had successful relationships that have such a bitter view about them.
