The internet is just a different place these days - It's not just the COR. 4chan/Facebook have had a large impact in forum use in general, and the trend of reducing everything to memes came about quite a while ago, ruining much of teh funnay.

Maybe everything in the world just sucks a bit more than it used to, and that's reflected in people's internet behaviour? Or I could be way off

Yes. I think there was generally more original content on forums around that time because the web was less centralized, so it was less likely to see people all finding things on the same few sites (YouTube, 4Chan, Reddit, Facebook).

There was also simply less content to draw from on the web at the time. Pictures and vids were less rampant because there weren't many huge sites for sharing them, many forums lacked the ability to post video at all, and many people's bandwidth couldn't handle it.

Also, dare I say it, most people spent less time on their computers in those days, so they might have had more things to talk about that were not taken from the net.

So... so far only 1 reply with a noteworthy thread... I figured a tab delimited file would make it easier to look at stuff at a glance (via excel/OpenOffice) & just copy/paste. Hmm?

Perhaps the c0r is best defined by threads that take on a life of their own? lol
