LOL, so why does he produce "cheesy shit" himself then?
Judging from that interview he doesn't even seem to take his own music seriously. Unless he is a hypocrite.

It could be he is refering to the really cheesy type of "dance/trance" acts such as Lasgo etc. And that the "really good stuff" as he says, are the kind of vocal tracks he has on his album, in which most of us define as cheesy vocal trance.
PvD - Words is one of my all time favorites this is trance.
As for the album i've give another look to the tracks and there is another that maybe stands a bit out--> Symetries. Works as an intro, good vibes here but it is a bit repetitive, melody is fine... well i can like this in fact i enjoy some tunes of this style.

maybe when you're that immersed in the world of production, and on such a grand scale, you get mixed up in what truly sounds "good". a part of you wants to make what you really like but then theres a subconscious need to please the ever-growing fan base (of college kids with mainstream tastes). so you lie to yourself because that's what pleases the crowd... or maybe your own tastes change. who knows?
from watching his recent interviews still seems to have the passion that he's always had. maybe these guys just realized that they would rather please as many people as possible instead of catering to a niche market . not to mention that critical thinking is a lot easier when you're on the outside looking in. he's a business now not just an artist

No he is not. He is talking about Trance Energy, clearly refering to the other DJs that usually plays at the event.

I have an unhealthy obsession with reading and collecting old articles about the early german trance scene, kid paul, mfs, mark reeder, etc. and mark reeder in a couple of interviews after pvd broke from him stated that what drove paul wasnt money but fame. he wanted to be in front of that crowd etc. to me his whole career arc has gone from being an innovator in developing a unique and beautiful trance style perfected on seven ways and his late 90s remixes to first trying to emulate a cleaner sound of trance in the post tiesto epic area ie reflections, nothing but you, crush etc. to now bringing his sound to basically pop music as seen in his eternity track or this whole album. symmetries is a great example, as i heard it live at his show at avalon in la a couple months back, and while it wasnt earth shattering, the version he played was a real banger of a tune that had the place rocking. still not my preferred type of trance but not the cheese it ended up on the album.
check it out at about the 3 minute mark and forward. now who thinks this version isnt way better than the album version? who the hell is telling him to release it like that?

He is talking about whats being called Trance music these days as opposed to the early 90s. He is praising Rank 1 and John 0`Callaghan saying its the good stuff of electronic music. When he says "really shitty music" he is obviously talking about radio-dance music that is being labeled as Trance, and not cheesy acts like John O`Callaghan, he likes that stuff, so in that way what he says does make sense.
