So, from all this, what would u give me, as far as participation on these boards? On a scale of 1 - 10.

Assuming a Gaussian scale (many people getting a 5 or 6, less a 7 or 4, and very very few a 10 or 1) I'd say 9.

Actually (and now I'm probably forgetting somebody) you, sothis and johnsmith spring to mind, when thinking of interesting and intelligent posts from "new" members (ones not around spring 2001). You're also good at posting new threads with new topics, I've noticed. The reasons why you're not getting a 10, include that you occasionally lose your temper...and that you posted this self-pitying post

rengegade, cortexbomb, quddha, and many others also contribute intelligently.

I think it's ok here, sure there are a lot of assholes, but when you get a large group of people together, assholes are a certainty. I just learn to stay out of threads that seem like they would be useless, and ignore the posts of people just out to cause trouble.

sometimes it's hard though, people like tiesto14 really make my blood boil, and i had to restrain myself, and didn't do that good a job.

What is Gaussian? Anyway, Thanks! I actually like a 9 better than a 10 because it shows that no one's perfect. It's the reason why my Economics/History teacher used to give final percentages ONLY up to 99/100. Because people would end up with 620/600 points, however some of those points were BONUS points, NOT points based on regular assignments. So, regular scores would be around the 560+ range (which, in my opinon, is great!). He's a tough teacher. He takes points off for ANYTHING but, at least he's honest. If you have a few points lower than a passing grade but, you had good behaviour, etc., you'll pass with a passing score.

Actually it's interesting to see how many people lurk the boards for at least a good year or so before joining!

I know I was coming here regularly at the start of the summer in 2001, but I didn't know enough about the music to feel like it'd be worth joining, as I didn't think I'd have that much to contribute to the community.

TA is a tremendous resource for music knowledge, particularly new tracks, and it's opened me up to hundreds of new tracks, sets, and artists that I never would have known about otherwise.

I think that huge level of knowledge can also intimidate people at first, because once you start reading the forums you can start to see just how little you actually know about the music. Given time though I think most people eventually give in and join the discussion, it's just there's a sort of pre-trancEaddict in training training mode for many.

people are too ignorant, something comes up and they think they're so special, so smart that they will post about it first... without thinking that someone else might have thought about it... heh...

I lurked around for about 6-8 months before joining too. Early in 2001 was when I found out about here.

I used to visit trance addict from summer of 2000 on for the tracks... but never ventured into the message boards until March '01. I am never serious on message boards, so I never bothered. I'm a bit of a message board terrorist. I do agree alot of you people take this shit too seriously though.
