Iran did get beat up by Saddam, because Saddam used brutal tactics against Iran. He sent hundreds of Scuds against Tehran alone, killing many civilians. Many Iranian civilians were captured, tortured, killed and their skulls taken back to Iraq. Then Saddam used chemical weapons against Iranian troops. Iranian infantry was sometimes so short on ammunition, they charged into battles with nothing but fists and empty guns. But in the end, Saddam was forced to retreat, and Iran won. Iranians fought hard and persevered, against all odds. While Syrians often ran away from IDF forces, Iranians didn't. I am not praising the Islamists, I am just noting their bravery.

i apologize in advance but that post is not cool, at all.

Don't apologize, you know me personally and the problem with online posts is the absence of contextuality in comments and how they can be misinterpreted.

The popcorn comment is in light that this topic has generated a good conversation that is not only enlightening but respectful at the same time which was the purpose of the thread, and in all honesty an anomaly on TA. No apologies needed my friend...

On a side note: What I find interesting is the very close poll results regarding the opening question. Certainly some different perspectives, but I'm left asking one question since you mentioned WW3......when we look back on this time period, we will say this is the beginning of WW3 or has WW3 already started? Think about it the Arab Spring, the world economy, and the crisis in the middle east. The absence of nuclear deployment does not necessarily mean that in fact a great war (large war for context purposes) has not already begun. This was a conversation I had with somebody at work, and was quite interesting to hear....

really?

quote:

"The conflict is believed to have killed around 1,300 Lebanese people,[42][43][44][45] and 165 Israelis.[46] It severely damaged Lebanese civil infrastructure, and displaced approximately one million Lebanese[47] and 300,000–500,000 Israelis.[25][48][49] After the ceasefire, some parts of southern Lebanon remained uninhabitable due to Israeli unexploded cluster bomblets.[50]"

this reminds me of the baath party claiming victory during the 2003 US iraq invasion.

Iran has very rugged terrain and tough resistance. Recall how Saddam's well armed troops got beaten by a weaker internationally isolated under-armed Iranian side in the 80's?

Also, that was in 1967. Things have changed a lot since 1967 in the region. Iran, for one, is a lot stronger than before.

Yes,

Israel has nuclear weapons now.

Trust me. The war would be over quick if it came down to it. Although i seriously seriously doubt they would even need to ponder in that direction for a clear decisive victory.

Let history speak for itself.

Israel knows better than to launch a strike on Iran !! The entire region would be on Irans side and they would isolate Israel even more !!
Netanyoohoo is in Canada and the US every other week just begging for our help . Bottom line is that Israel has not signed the nuclear non-proliferation treaty and they are the biggest war mongerers out there .
Obama is a very rational man , unlike the republican rednecks before him . He knows that any change in Iran has to happen within .

What a joke, Harper won the award largely because of his support for Israel and his criticism of Iran and thats about it.

I am frankly happy this is happening.

My views have changed a lot in the last couple years. Islam is a cancer of the brain. Wherever it goes,, everything turns to shit.

These leaders in Iran must be ostracized and weakeneded and choked as much as possible from the world so that they can be overthrown.

Not only have they caused suffering outside its borders through proxy interests Like (Hezbollah)... They have ruined Iran.. A country rich in resources and intellect.

All they care about is spreading that death cult Saudi Arabian ideology of Islam. They don't care about anything but spending money on Hezbollah and syria while people have become poor and hungry within their own orders.

They have crushed the potential of the Persian nation. It's a sad embarrassment really... With such an open minded history and culture, Persians are forced to live like desert Arabs becuase a few ugly turban wearing shit fucks think they should becuase they have the powers to force that lifestyle.

Nobody likes them there or here.

They must go and fuck themselves
