Go download my mix and tell me if there isn't enough quality uplifting trance nowadays.

Vesa, I applaud your excellent post. All your posts are pretty much on-target... and I always agree with them.

I don't know who to pitty more. The "Trance owns everything else" people or the snobbish "grow up and forget about your cheese trance" prog "fans". Funnily each side justifies its own narrown-mindness by mentionning the other party's narrow-mindess.
Ive said it quite often on these boards: there isnt a hierarchy of genres in electronic music. There isnt such a thing as "the next step" or a more developed taste of music. peronsally I started with Trance and EXPANDED (not changed) to progressive. And not because of being bored with trance but due to the fact that trance made me curious for other aspects of electrnoic music. Same thing happens nowadays as I tend to listen to more breakbeats, house and techno.

So...both of you radicals: grow up

Absolutely. We're infighting here.

Although I still think progressive trance has the most sophistication and class.

I can justify my views, but enough people are thrashing it out already. "Can't we all just get along?"

Nice topic there

Cause I just recently started to dig progressive and I mean diiiiig it hehe
Hernan Cattaneo is a fabulous DJ !!

But about the topic,... I still like trance alot but the trance tunes have to be more original and that's what's missing in the trance scene now IMO originality of the tunes I think that some producers tend to think way too formulaic. But that's just my opinion.

Hehe, I wanna add one maybe a little harsh comment but here we go:
As you all have noticed that many TA's have been converting to progressive which gets on the nerves on some of you but do you know of any proghead that has converted to trance? I don't

cheers,

ok ok ok .... for being such a big progressive house fan on this board....this is truely what i think

the reason why progressive is considered more sophisticated and intellegent..is that Trance and progressive are like school ...trance is like algebra and progressive is like calculas .... the reason why im saying this is because 90% of progressive fans were usually into trance long before they got into progressive never vise versa ..youll never see a progressive fan stop listening to progressive and get into epic trance...thats why im saying and many say progressive is more intellgent because u have to do your dews in trance to really appreciate progressive of the genre it is .... like u cant do calc unless u master algebra first.. same concept goes with progressive fans ..... Trance is also a very easy genre to like ..thats why most people who start listening to electronic music love trance and hard house genres in that nature ..because there elements are very upfront and isnt complex ..where as progressive is usually more complex in nature then trance so when people listen to progressive enjoy and figure out the hidden things of what progressive is all about ...then going back to trance.. its like a Graduate student going back to do highschool course ...its just to easy for them and boring to predictable ..it doesnt work the mind as it did when u first got into it ...i think progressive listeners were all once trance listeners and its just the natural evolution of music ull like a simplar style first till you want more complex forms of music thats what progressive is all about...... and all you folks who say i can never like progressive its boring no melody , no this , no that , and its just boring boring boring to you ...and think the folks in here who talk very highly about progressive are just wierd folks ...then all i have to say is that your not ready for the level that progressive brings and ill garentee that youll get into the progressive vibe later in the future when you have been listening to trance more and more... because i was the same way i hated progressive and though it was a heap of boring shit that couldnt see why people dug it to much... well 2 years later my views are totally different..the reason is because i wasnt ready for progresive then...trance still challenged my music needs at the time....but now it doesnt and i evolved into more complex genres as progressive to give me the same thrill and challenge... that will happen to many of you later in time unless it has happened already. Once you find those hidden elements about progressive its extremely rewarding ..i just hope some of you guys will see it as i do and i think many will as many do already...

thats why i say progressive is more intellegent because its more complex ...but you cant understand it until you do your dues in trance or other genres that or more simple... but i understand why some of u hate when we say that i didnt like it either at first cuz it has nothing to do with how intellegent you are its just the evolved taste of music which will happen to everyone ...wait and see folks ...

just do your dues in trance ..dont worry about progressive one bit it will come to you by its self garenteed!!!

Being a former engineering student, i qute agree with the algebra/calculus analogy. I used to hate prog myself, but after 3 years of listening to uplifting stuff, i wanted to expand my horizonsand prog was the natural place to look. I never used to bea ble to imagine what people saw in prog, but believe me it has its merits. It just takes time to see it sometimes. It will still take me a lot of time to see what 7C likes about some of his trax (no offense man) but i really have begun to make a transition towards "deeper" music. Having said that, i will also say that i never liked and still dont like prog elitists. I still like the dutch style of trance. if asked what i wanted to party to more, prog or uplifting, i would still say uplifting. But i am getting bored with the traditional formulaic stuff. Every now and then a good trak will pop up that i will dig (like sunset on ibiza or more recently Now is the time) but for the most part i look to prog for casual listening nowdays. I never realised the genious behind Holden, Warren, Sasha, Kleinenberg, Lieb, Hybrid, etc. until just recently, and i am very glad i did. You might be too if you give it a try.
