This is a very interesting thread.

Facebook is more of a love / hate relationship for me.

I run alot of ads on facebook for clients through my ad manager account so as a business tool it is invaluable. No other platform on the net really has the ROI that facebook produces. It really is an exceptional business resource for small and enterprise level companies. Even alot of content and news sites for the most part have a comment system at the bottom of articles only accessible to comment if you have a facebook or if your willing to give them your email and make an account ( i have a couple burner emails for this purpose)

I first got facebook in 2009 while in high school so my feed is pretty much McDonalds fast food, maybe even worse. You know back in high school and college it was mostly a time waster or way to creep on people (girls) haha. Like any social network or community, its value depends on the curation system implemented. And my feed is more "noise" than "signal" . Even worse my instagram is starting to become a hampered mess that needs to be cleaned as well.

I ABSOLUTELY see the benefits that System J is stating though. With a well trimmed facebook it can be incredibly useful for your personal lives. Follow or befriend your favorite artists, writers, websites, close friends and family , etc. Also as System J stated, the private facebook groups are like a god send. Websites can create membership programs and the platform is often facebook private groups.

Facebook is only as valuable as the curation you have in place. However it is a great distraction so i have removed the app from my phone and often log out everytime im done using it. It isnt much , but that added friction to access your profile by adding more steps to the process ( i.e typing in your log in credentials) does help.
