Islam needs external influence to reform, because they have no intention on reforming themselves. Our favorite "Moderate" Islamic nation (Egypt), when given the chance after their revolution, democratically elected officials in the Muslim Brotherhood. If that is a model of "Moderate", I don't want these people in my country. |
There is nothing moderate about Egypt. Extremism and Wahhabi influence is absolutely rife in Egypt, perhaps only second to that of Saudi Arabia. Terrorism has a long history in Egypt, way before the mainstream Islamic of today - I believe the only non-Saudi involved in the 9/11 attacks was an Egyptian and there were a number of attacks in the 90s, such as the el-Ulla brothers attack on a busload of tourists, massacre of greeks in 1996, Luxor Massacre etc.
The most moderate Muslim countries are the ones of the former Soviet Union.
