Most people think that as soon as they start scratching, they think theyre djing. Most people would mix hip hop/rap anyway. I know that, cause i took one of my coworkers to guitar center once and the only thing he did was just move the plates back and forth and was smiling and saying that he could dj's. Im like, dude, drop it.

We did have stores with djing equipment already...

HOly Batman thread resurrection, didnt notice the date.

I hear music appreciation has been on the rise in recent years. CD format is dying while digital continues to flourish and vinyl is on the rise again. It's unfortunate on some level but it does appear to be the case that DJing and producing will become mainstream. Moreover, I'm sure newer and newer technologies over the next decade or so will make it easier and easier to do things like produce.

Of course, the more saturated the industry becomes, the more instances of talentless DJs and poor producers there will be. The Nu-wave/trashy electro phenomenon is a good example of what happens when a good genre (electro house) becomes too saturated with mediocre producers and DJs.

The industry becoming saturated isn't 100% a bad thing though. A high volume of tracks being produced means a high volume of mediocre tracks, but I think EVERYONE knowing how to "produce" and "DJ" will raise the standard for what GOOD productions are and what TALENTED DJing is. There will definitely be a period in which lots of rubbish is being churned out, but out of that there will always be DJs and producers, like many of you here, who won't want to be a part of that and who will strive to be more innovative, more creative, more unique, more inspired than the average DJ, no?? Sure things will definitely become harder for the veterans, but isn't that part of it o_O ?

As an artist you either continue to reinvent yourself / stay ahead of the pack OR you become jaded and stop DJing/producing or continue to DJ/produce for a smaller demographic of purists like yourself rather than trying to keep up with an industry you probably feel is turning to shit. All the while scoffing at a younger generation of kids who THINK they're producing good music just as our parents and grandparents scoff at us for thinking that we produce good music... lol

This is a ridiculous thread.

(1) I guarantee that anyone who wants to buy cdj-1000's to get into dj'ing knows exactly what a guitar center is. They're not exactly hard to track down.

(2) Someone who is walking into best buy to purchase a TV is not going to casually say "oh, let me drop 2+ grand on 2 cdj's and a mixer" as well. Even if you can get 1000's for $870 each, that's nearly $1800 to be tossing around.

(3) It's pretty simple to spend half of that at a guitar center/sam ash, get a dual deck and a mixer, and learn how to spin. People who are brand new to DJ'ing have absolutely no need to buy cdj's. My first setup was Numark Axis 2's with a Vestax PCX-275. As far as learning to beatmatch/mix, it absolutely got the job done.

Best Buy selling CDJ's will not suddenly flood the market with DJ's.

I can guarantee most people will walk right by them in the store, without the slightest interest in even reading the specs.

You guys are just overreacting.
Complaining that the scene is expanding? Thats a good thing remember? We don't need more dead clubs.
And this makes more room for DJs, good ones and bad ones alike.
If someone wants to get into DJing and chooses to get ripped off buying technics at Best Buy, thats their problem. I got my 1200s used at $150 a piece and ten years later they still work great.

I don't think you have anything to worry about. The crap they are selling on the website isn't anything anyone that is serious about the business would be. Numark and Stanton FTL

Well if you guys haven't seen it yet well 300 Best Buy's will be adding a new room called the Music Instrument Room which will have about 100 something Guitars from brands like Gibson and prices from $200-4000. Now I built one these room with my team at Best Buy and they will be carry some really great DJ's equipment (Numark and M-Audio) which I will be buying since I get 50% of this stuff. This room is big and carrys so much than just DJ equipment.

Very tempting indeed. I can see my self getting a couple of those just cause I can't pass up a bargain. I have a problem about buying too much gear.

Techs seem to be overpriced there.

I say (PROPS TO BEST BUY IF IT'S CHEAPER)
Screw them if it's more expensive.

I don't care who sells it...I just care that I can use it and drop my music on it.

Peace

Where the hell are they selling them for 870????? On the website they don't even have Pioneer. I call BS, no way they sell 1000's for $870, that's gotta be below cost.
