the way i see it, he must be European, cuz i haven't heard ANYTHING from AvB here in America. Then again, i don't hear any decent tunes here on the radio. |
I don't remember the last time I listened to the FM radio. In Philly you only have maybe 10 FM station which play the following:
2 Rock/Alternative
3 Easy Listening
1 Oldies
1 Country
3 Rap/Pop/R&B
The rest is PRN, college stations playing jazz/blues/college music(by college suck-ass bands) and the end.
I think that radio companies are deliberatly pushing people towards XM/Satelite radio or CDs. I have stopped listening to radio right after I had a loaner car with no tape/cd in it - only AM/FM radio and I clearly remember being stuck in traffic, forced to listen to shit like Matchbox20, Goo Goo dolls, and the rest of alternative shit. I HATE ALTERNATIVE MUSIC MORE THAN E-Z LISTENING!!!! no, wait, that's wrong. I don't hate it more than e-z listening but it's pretty close.
Anyway... AvB CD's are sold in local stores - try HMV, Tower... Hell, I went to Barnes and Noble (who are notorious for their shitty-ass selection of music) and found the following in their POP SECTION!:
BT
PvD
Oakey
Junior Vasquez
Taucher
Sasha
Dickweed
No AvB tho.... let alone System F
ok... that's it for now.

nice one!
americans are too blinkered about electronica. for most part, they don't recognize it as a separate genre. in best buy, you'd find cds of tiesto, pvd, and oakey under the "dance" section. that's what it is to them - dance (which is not really a genre, BSB could be dance too). the only other thing about electronica some of them know is techno, although i really-really doubt they heard at least one real techno tune in their lives. |
LoL so true, though I remember there was this very small section named TECHNO, then , all of the sudden, best buy gathered all the electronica/ techno/ dance music artists, mix compilations and so on, and placed them under one kinda big section , named .. DANCE. I even found some Gatecrashers hehe.
Borders and FYE hold alot of this Superclub imports. Euphorias as well. BT and Paul Oakenfold are very much well respected here on the stores. And on the listening places on Borders, theres awlays the electronic dance part. Which will always have the biggest names from GU to PvD.

This argument about commercialism in music is so hackneyed...
The next time someone asks you why you listen to "commercial" music, ask them why the listen to "underground" music. Your answers will probably be the same.

Progheads, perhaps you can clear it up for me - what kind of shit you're on when you listen to 8 hours of John Dickweed??? I find him unbearable... he's a total bore, totaly uncommunicative with a crowd, with tracks that.... hell, I can't even explain it... I love a prog track here and there but for crying out loud - unless you're waisted on some wacked up shit, I can't imagine listening to this shit for more than 15minutes.

I'm not going to argue with you about progressive music, because from what I see, you're as closed-minded to progressive as some progressive people are to trance. I love both, and the lack of respect in these forums saddens me
I've seen Digweed, Tiesto, Oakenfold, all these hated DJ's, live, and I loved every second, completely sober. I guess my mind is too open, or I'm too easy to please....
