I got a:
P3 667 mhz
128 mb ram
tnt2 32 mb video
20.4 gb hard disk

But i haven't got a cd burner! I got a fast cable connection about 2 weeks ago, and since yesterday my hard disk is almost full ! I think i've to delete Baldurs gate 2 and half life (1.3 + 1.6 GB) , because i'm too lazy to get a job to pay for a cd burner

What operating system are you running...
95/98/NT/2000/ME ???

File and print sharing should have no effect on your cable connection. And as far as security goes...well think of how likely it is for you to get hacked..do you run a ftp site or any other sever application where people can trace your ip and find any open ports? Yeah, and like you said, if you have only music and porn you have nothing to worry about. Also, you can always pick up symantec's personal internet firewall package or similar product....for the most part they all work fine for the typical user.

well if you have local Cabel modem..ususaing there is a local server which anyone can see your computer thats in the server unless you have a firewall or some sort of password ect.... if you have any sort of server connection lan connection....i think Firewall is always needed! cuz most hackers dont hacker to get certain content...most hackers do it for the thrill and the feeling of power...so many just like to hack to fuck up shit ..so thats why Firewall is always needed no matter what!

In the original days of the 1st cable internet servies they did have a central workgroup in which you COULD browse anyone computer that is on the same segment or node. Since then, at least for @home, they have wised up and disallowed that ability. sure, anyone can hack into your computer...that is a basic risk of having a staticly assigned IP address with all ports open. Even using a modern day firewall doesn't secure you 100%, actually not even close to that. Everyone want the basic poprts open to the internet(i.e. 80,21,20,25,110,119), this alone provides enough access for a hacker to penetrate through the firewall and accomplish his task of destruction. Unless you have a hardware based firewall(in my opinion) you are just as at risk as someone who has no firewall. If a experienced hacker wants to get in....he will. A novice, yeah you'll keep him out, but for how long? Any arguements?

yes, i do this shit for a living

you mean hack? it's true though, but the more protection, generally you'll feel safer. it's all in the state of mind. everything is, when it bubbles down to it. *shrugs*
