Well, thank fuck Tiesto has reaffirmed my belief in his ability to rock a crowd!!!

Having seen him in 99 (in according to most people, his heyday) at Innercity...where he fuckin rocked!!

Then seeing him at Godskitchn GG a couple of summers ago...he fuckin rocked once more!!!

Then last Saturday I was a little aprehensive as there is so much opinionated bull shit attached to all his sets, its difficult to know if he still works the crowd and shows his deep-rooted passion for his job....but i was not at all disappointed! And im sure most of those who were also present will testify by the number of sweaty bods and smiley faces on the dancefloor....

Well done Tijs : you blatantly haven't lost your magic! Those who disagree are either spoiled by the sheer number of DJs they see, or the number of sets they listen to!

Dont forget tunespotters and bandwagoneering critics...clubbing is about having a good time and dancin to the grooves - as in a lot of things in life, clubbing loses its fun if you take it too seriously!

And one question if I may. Ever since i've seen you post on TA you have always hated Tiesto. Did you really bother downloading 95 mbs worth of a dj you don't like? Or did you waste two hours listening to the broadcast? What for?

This set reminded me of when I saw Tiesto live here in Amsterdam over a week ago, the 7th time I see him since 2000 and I honestly think he just keeps getting better and more sophisticated.

The set makes perfect structural sense to me, and it flows just as well. The thing is, Tiesto's unique style has always been different from the pack and therefore misunderstood. What some people see as a random structure and lack of flow, I've interpreted the same things most of the time as very effective contrast-variety modular techniques.

I'm a classical musician, and to me it's been very evident over the years that Tiesto has this special touch in his mixing that in my opinion makes him standout. To the untrained ear this will appear as nonesense, but Tiesto has shown me that he has this great ablity to weave cadences and even counterpoint harmonies from mix to mix. Tiesto is one of the few that mixes trance music as an art. So does PVD, but in a very different way, technical mastery. personally like Tiesto better because he caters to MY taste better than anyone else. That's the truth.

I'm not underestimating beatmatching as a measure of how great a dj is, but I think most people here are underestimating the fact that trance is music, music is an art, and in the appreciation of art we will always be subjective.

I'm just tired of all the Tiesto-bashing in these forums. Tiesto-bashing has become so rampant that it's almost a taboo to say anything pro-Tiesto. Only a few people started the trend and they were so influential that the backlash has been huge. Most of the people in these forums are young and naive, their opinions are not very well formed and can be easily manipulated.

If you don't like Tiesto, fine, but why do you need to put us down? Just because I like Tiesto doesn't mean I'm ignorant or that I don't know any better.

I totally agree with this. You have very similar tastes to me. Ive never understood why people are so concerned with mixing, for me its all about the pure quality of track selection. Sure, good mixing makes it sound better but I'm not gonna blow a gasket over a few misplaced beats. Thats why I think Oakey and Tiesto own; they have great taste in tracks (at least for my tastes).

BTW Whats a trainwreck? Is that when a DJ completely misses up the mixing between 2 tracks?

Great words !!!
I think it's just cool to bash #1 DJs.. in 2000 when Oakey was #1, everybody on this board was bashing Oakey. Now that Tiesto is #1, everybody forgot Oakey, and is bashing Tiesto now. go figure..
