SARS Hits North York
Arthur M. Stein

The Ontario Ministry of Health has now reported up to 133 additional suspect cases of SARS in the GTA. The source has been traced to a public washroom in the Yorkdale mall, and the spread was caused by a 52-year-old man who was supposed to have been quarrantined.

"We didn't expect anyone to be this careless." said Ministry of Health official Robert Poule. "Even if we had expected people to break their quarrantines, there wasn't legally anything we could do until the sickness was clinically proven."

Reacting to this unexpected turn of events, the Ministry has ordered all businesses and schools to be shut down as of tomorrow, until the following Monday when probable cases could be identified. "People may think we are overreacting, but we don't know how many people might already have this bug and we are acting in the best interests of the public."

Officials are still trying to work out from security tapes who may have been exposed to the infection. It is estimated that anywhere between 84 and 133 people used the washroom and may have caught the bug from seats or faucets.

Additionally, Toronto airports have temporarily suspended all outgoing and several incoming flights. Administration says that they will resume normal operation when they are certain that nobody exposed to the recent outbreak is scheduled for travel. "Many American airports have already stated that they will not be allowing flights to or from Toronto for at least 21 days. We don't think that it's necessary for them to wait so long, but they are understandably very worried about a possible epidemic."

All residents of Toronto are urged to stay home for at least 10 days, which is the estimated maximum incubation period of SARS.

undecided, if it gets any worse, im out. I wonder if ticketmaster would make an exception and refund peoples tickets due to SARS. Its worth a try. Im from Kingston and our hospitals are taking huge precautions right now. All doors are closed except the emergency entrance. Doctors and Security guards are wearing masks as well. Anyone that doesnt think this is serious is a complete fool!!

Its funny how paranoid ppl can get. Can u imagine anyone experiencing SARS syndrome in the club? If I have dry cough, soar throat, fever - I would not wanna go anywhere, just stay in bed.
U have to be in very close contact with the person to catch SARS. And its people with bad immune system (read old people) who are affected the most by this desease.

So (chances of infected person being in the club)*(chances of u catching the desease)*(chances of u actually dying from it if the worse comes to worse)< chances of u being hit by a car in Toronto.

If it was air born then A LOT OF people would be sick by now. So how else would you get it other than being in close contact with a person who's infected?

SARS is most contagious in the first 24 hours of becoming sick, when the person doesn't even know he's sick yet!

The problem with clubs is that it's enough for JUST ONE person there to be sick and almost the whole club will get sick by the end of the night.
