Good win for Celtic.

I've got to say that the referee made a total shit call when he awarded Celtic with a freekick, which Nakamura scored on, But that's football. Vidic with the "foul" there

Saha can take the blame for this loss, I mean, having two fantastic chances to score and still fuck up is quite an achievement. I knew he would miss that penalty and it's nice to see a team like Celtic advance, I just hope Benfica doesn't go through, I hate them even more than Manchester United.

what pisses me off is the arrogance of the celtic faithful (in my town anyway)

they think celtic DESERVED that win and united were outclassed. futhermore they are 100% sure the freekick which led to the goal was infact a foul but the handbull struck the guys HEAD

as a neutral i can safely say im glad im not a united supporter because tonite i would be absolutly gutted.

On night shift at the min so never saw only listened. But by the sounds of it Man U had alot of possetion but didn't get (aside from Saha's and Rondaldo's) too many clear chances.

Need a bit of luck to beat a team like Man U, Celtic got it. I betted on it so yay hoops. Can't wait to watch the news and listen to all the put down of Celtic that'll come to play down what was in the end a good result.

I mean last time they were unlucky, OGs freak defending so on. Well done Celtic.

I can tell you one thing, not one celtic fan in the real world thinks we deserved the victory, but it wasn't a penalty either, maloney had his back to the ball and his arm made no movement towards the ball.

Yes the free kick was a dodgy decision, but who gives a flying fuck, we've been one of the most unlucky teams with refereeing decisions i european football.

And for all man utd's "dominance", it certainly isn't translated in the stats.

celtic man utd
1 Goals scored 0
3 Yellow card 1
0 Red card 0
4 Shots on goal 3
3 Shots wide 7
15 Fouls committed 10
1 Corners 7
4 Offsides 3
28' 37'' Ball. Poss. (time) 32' 48''
47% Ball. Poss. (%) 53%

That defeat came just the wrong time.

To me, it is irrelevant whether the arm made actual motion towards the ball. The player did jump (intent) to block the ball. Ball hits his arm because he jumped.

Penalty in my view.

Emmmm that makes no sence. If there was intent to use the arm then yes, but of course he's gonna want to bloack the ball .

If just stood there and ball happens to hit his arm, no penalty. (ball playing arm)

If he moved in direction of ball with intent of blocking the flight of ball and his arm, penalty. (arm playing ball)

It's like a foul. You slide tackle with intent to get the ball but you miss and hit the other player, it's a foul.

At least that's how I interpret the rules.

Thats absolute rubbish, his arm has to make obvious movement towards the ball, it doesn't matter what the rest of his body is doing. Maloney jumped and turned his back on the ball with his arms by his side. the ball came of the back of his arm, it was a harsh penalty and that is a fact, it's all irrelevant anyway as we are now the best team in britain.

that doesnt make sense. how the hell can someone jump without moving there arm lol and of course it relevant if the arm moves towards the ball. God im glad your not a referee there would be 10 penaltys every game.

It's definitely an iffy part of the rule for sure.

And it seems to be up to the refs to interpret the rule. Some are more 'harsh', others are not.

Now IIRC, the Celtic player jumped with his arms flailing (ok. maybe an exaggeration, but his arms weren't checked to the side)

I've seen penalties and handballs given for players who jump and made no deliberate movement to avoid the ball hitting his arm.

*shrug*

Sweet goal from Saha, too bad for that Carvalho header. Who knows, Van Der Sar might have even gottn it if Saha didnt try to head it out...
