Wow, that's so much better than the method I use!!!
Here I was keying my tracks myself, listening to them, and mixing what I want...I was blind but now I see.
Thank you for opening my eyes.

the , uh, "thumbs upi" is a script error. for some reason it printed the icon and the code and did not even print the other icon. I dont even know what you're talking about. if you just listen to your tunes and know how they go you would'nt need to mix 24/7. christ, just key them up your self, make a playlist the 12 basic keys, listen to them, and mix when you want. it's not that hard. but maybe some of us arent that clever...if that system is even clever. dont use the bullshit camelot system though, because there are sooooo many other possibilities than the camelot system can explain. each note has dozens of different scales and harmonies. the possibilities are endless. take a fucking music theory semester. train your ears. and listen to your fucking tracks. |
Firstly, not everyone has the ability or at least the ready ability to start keying, the knowledge to do so or perhaps the time or comitment. DJing is for people who want to enjoy music primarily, then there are those who want to go further.
This is an introduction to a concept that might help people improve their skills.
With regards to camelot as a system... what's wrong with it? It only starts out with a concept, I agree there is much more that you can do with both scales and harmonies providing you know them. And besides, what is the chromatic scale if not a system designed to assist with understanding and categorising sound so that it can be easlily structured into the desired combination... and scales even more so. But then you probably knew this already.
You don't have to however polute this thread by attacking those who exchange information on something they enjoy. If you don't agree with it start a separate thread and state your opinions in a constructive way and allow discussion you will no doubt get answers and a chance to defend you beliefs.
It is after all an opinion which you are entitled to have, if I agree with it or not is besides the point.
Sure, music theory would help people no doubt, but it can be very heavy and not all of it will help with your aims anyway. I didn't learn music theory till I got into production, but I was harmonically mixing and playing in bands long before that which I guess supports your theory that you don't need to know theory to do it... but it's not for everyone. You do contradict yourself when you first say it's easy and then advise people to learn the theory.
I also noticed that you jumped on a TA for possibly not even having a gig... do you? And even if the answer is no, why is that important anyway? There are pro's here too and the company they keep might surprise you , some of us play several times a week, other's enjoy the dream that they might one day make it. It's just the way of things.
So you can either hang around and make snide remarks at people who enjoy this thread or put your money where you mouth is, post a mix and start a thread with some useful content and perhaps teach us something. Share your knowledge and don't mock others for having questions.
Peace
Nem

hey nem,
i am using a keyboard. i just got one the other day. it is a m-audio axiom 61. but it does not have speakers on it. so it has to go through the computer to get sounds. i was just wondering if anyone else is doing it this way. if so how?
