After the last few pages... man I cannot believe the hostility that's brewing in this thread.
Some things to think about:
1) For venues and most promoters, the bottom line is about pulling the biggest art of the crowd they can. It also is about making as much money as they can. What most people forget is that International DJs cost a boat load of money to get out here, and at massives they are going to ask for more money, because of the amount of people in attendance.
2) Why so much electro? It's because that's what is filling clubs these days. I would kill to see a true trance massive like those back in the 90's before I ever got the chance to go. This year, EDC is making headway with the Gareth, Simon, Sean, Armin, A&B lineup. So I am happy to see that. That being said, I'm a fan of the Laidback Luke/Chuckie/Afrojack/SHM sound too, so I'm even more happy to see them being pulled out. I have yet to see them act together at one event, and I think the energy will be awesome from it.
3) Do I think the event is expensive? Oh yes, believe me I do. I will still go though because I want to hear the artists they have booked and all in all, its cheaper then having to string together night after night of clubs trying to see each one of the artists I'm interested in.
4)I'd love to see even more variety at an event like this, and hopefully with the growing success of EDC we will see Insomniac get the opportunity to use the whole block/park like the old Innercity parties in Amsterdam ID&T used to throw. That way we can get the variety we are all seeking. I'd love to see an Umek, Von Stroke, Gartner, and Vath stage... but hey... they already have Claud and Gartner so that's cool too.
5) Could they bring in some new talent? Sure, I'd love to see some more of the High Contrast Recordings producers at the event. is it going to happen yet, probably not, but I keep rooting to hear my favorites at a massive or at a club.
I still haven't gotten my ticket because I'm trying to figure out if i can afford 2 days in LA with a 2 day ticket... we'll see what happens. All my plans though are to go both days. I for one am excited to see so many great DJs.
