The greatest lineup of all time finally scores after 20.2 innings, with Matsui beating out the double play
3 runs scored in the final 23 innings of the season
6 runs in the last 3 games combined - fewer than in Game 1 alone

I know it's the media calling them that, not the players themselves

the quality in pitching between verlander, rogers, and bonderman has probably been the best pitching i have seen since the maddux, smoltz, and glavin era - the yankees bats are empty...wish my boys bats would come alive....

Also, this Tigers team looks like a team to be dealt with for like 10 years, they have a young team with more upside... but I think alot of it has to do with Pudge, he is amazing behind home plate.

Why is it that when a team (your team) scores a lot of runs, you say "the hitters were great!" and when the team doesn't score a lot of runs, you say "those pitchers pitched gems."

because i think credit is deserved where its due and not make it always seem like things are about the yankees

-edit-
the minute we say a thing about the yankees doing good alot of people are quick to say all we care about is the yankees but the minute yankees give it up to a better team and their fans praise the other team you come with questions like that?

yanks haven't pulled a title in 6 years now, i think its fair enough to say that as a fan, i am still a fan of my team when they are in their 'low' period..the stadium still gets filled, and the yankees fans are still loyal to their team. so all those references to how yankee fans jump bandwagons or abandon their team when they are losing should prove that statement to be wrong.

I'm speaking in general here. When the Mets get owned by a shitty pitcher, the announcers always say "and so-and-so is pitching a gem of a ball game." I say, "The Mets are sucking it up today."

what about the 'boston fans' from 2004 that bought themselves brand new mets hats this year?

where were all the yankee fans in the 80's when they sucked? if i remember correctly there were a lot of empty seats at the stadium during the lean years. i even used to root for the yankees when i was a kid. i got so sick of so many "fake fans" comming out of the woodwork after 1996. and to hear people bitch about not having won a world series since 2000??? give me a break. what about teams like the cubs. what makes you guys so special?

i dont have a problem with most of the people on here and another site that i read the baseball threads on, but 8 times out of 10 when i hear a conversation between two yankee fans, or some yankee fan preaching to a met/boston fan about how great the yanks are regardless of what they currently doing because of either: a: they have 26 rings, or b: they will get so and so next year and win it then, it makes me want to throw up.

tis a sad day in yankeeville mighty E-rod failed us yet again but hats off to the tigers they came in and went business as usual i think the problem with the yanks was that since they re line up was monsterous they thought could steam roll over this "pussycats" the tigers pretty much had nothing to lose (ala bosux) when is cashman gonna invest on pitching our relief an other closer is much to be desired for

I see it both ways, the pitcher pitched a great game, and the yankees batters sucked it up big time.

The pitchers were hitting their spots, throwing the pitches they want and you have to credit them for being on their game. And the Yankees knew what was coming (especially against Rogers) but couldnt hit it for the life of them. To not score a single run from Damon's HR in game 2, until tonight... means theres something wrong.

I think this might be the last time you will see ARod in a Yankee uniform. Personally, I dont think they need him. I think they should trade A-Rod and Sheffield for a 1B and 3B .300 hitters and a 1B that is a good fielder and stick Giambi in DH. They dont need superstars, they need good hitters and they will get 100 RBIs easy. I just dont understand the mentality behind going after superstars when no matter who you stick in that lineup, as long as they can hit well, they will get RBI's. Thats what made the 97-00 yankees so successful.

vlad..

in new york, its more than building a great baseball team, its about star power. in 96/97.. we (the yankees, as a yanks fan i refer to them as we) did not sell out the stadium.. once we started filling the rosters with some names, we started to sell out the stadiums. once we start filling the stadiums, we can afford more stars. once we start affording more stars, we start trading prospects away for our single serving playoff series's.. once we deplete the farm system, we need to purchase more stars and sell out more games..

vicious cycle.. one cashman is trying to stop.

i really dont understand what the hell happend to the yanks out there this series. it seemed like they completely forgot how to hit a baseball, they abandoned their battle tested technique of making the pitcher make the mistakes, and seemed like they were on their heels the entire series- nervous and swinging at pitches like they would be the last ones they would see. im interested to see what heads roll because of the series.. the fault is hard to find- the pitching was subpar, but the hitting was almost nonexistant, the players didnt play with the right attitude, and i also think that leyland outmanaged torre.

ahh well.. at least the bears are 4-0 and the jets look a little bit better than last year.

Pitching FA:

Jason Schmidt
Jason Johnson
Barry Zito
Andy Pettite
Roger Clemens
Woody Williams

And everyone is aware of the fact that Dontrelle Willis is on the trade market.

Personally, I want the Yanks to go after Willis and Johnson because of their age. And, i feel like Pettite should come back home... He is the antithesis of Mussina in the playoffs.

The trade of my dreams would be Sheffield and A-Rod for Willis and Cabrera, but thats so unlikely. Hell, Id grease the trade with either Melky or MONEY ($$$).
