Maybe they thought that since he was able to handle Lebron's ego (for the most part) he'd be able to handle Kobe's. If he could win that much with Lebron and a bunch of scrubs, I'm sure he'll be successful with a team like the Lakers.

I don't know if he "handled" Lebron's ego... he was just so much of a push over that no problems ever materialized between them. He never challenged Lebron (at least it appears that way). Maybe it's just a coincidence, but only 1 year later with Pat Reilly pulling the strings, we see a more humble and all-around developed player in Lebron.

I don't think it has so much to do with Pat Reilly as it does with him actually being on a good team for the first time in his career. He was "the man" in Cleveland, so the amount of pressure on him was unbelievable. He didn't really have the chance to become a complete player in Cleveland because he was being forced to try and score 40+ points every game.

Apparently, Kobe had no say in the hire. I don't think he will respect Mike Brown at all. Shit, he could barely respect Phil Jackson, why the fuck would he give MB the time of day?

And that is why Kobe should never be even considered as one of the best players in NBA history. He'll never even be in the top 10 imo, no matter how many rings he ends his career with. He's a classless, dirty player, and I would imagine the only reason anybody tolerates him at all is because he's a great basketball player. He's just a complete scumbag imo, and I wish him the worst for the rest of his career.

Like Lakers management needs to run their decisions by Kobe first? Give me a fucking break. Such a whiny prima donna. You'd think he plays in the WNBA by the way he acts.

1. Kobe definitely respected Phil. They just bumped heads a lot because Kobe is Kobe.
2. Regardless what you think of him, Kobe is a top-10 player.

Top 10 right now of course. I just would never consider him in the top 10 players of all time, and even objectively looking at it, there are many more players who deserve to be in the top 10 of all time before Kobe.

This is crap. Your personal animus is clearly getting in the way of objectivity here. I would say Kobe is a top 5 player all time, easy. He is the best all around player I've seen since Jordan (Lebron doesn't count yet). Is he so different from Michael Jordan? No. Michael was a PRICK, rarely got along with teammates, even punched Steve Kerr in the face during practice. He had several infidelities (why do you think his wife left him?), major gambling issues, and remembered every slight, real or perceived, against every player in the league as a way to motivate himself and get retribution on the court. I think a major difference is that Jordan didn't play in the era of the Internet, twitter, camera phones, and all that shit that would end up on Deadspin.com in 30 seconds.

We romanticize Jordan when we think of Spike Lee doing the Nike commercials, when we think of Space Jam, and the trillions of endorsements where he was the public face of the league always smiling. But he was one of the most surly, salty, primma donnas in the game and especially on his own team. He couldn't even go out with class in his Hall of Fame retirement speech where he even paid for people to be there just so he could dress them down in public for shit that happened 20 and 30 years ago! The fact of the matter is, most of the great ones are like that... they don't care about anything but winning. And that's why the do it so much. It's not about who can be the most accommodating teammate or who's the nicest/classiest guy... none of that matters. W.I.N.N.I.N.G. That is why Kobe is an indisputable all time great... with the numbers to back it up. Fuck man, I'm a Celtics guy and even I can admit it!
