Congrats to Brazil.

First half is what we expect from this team. However, i still don't understand what the hell Fred is doing on the field. Maybe it's not his fault but Felipćo's. Oscar has being playing too much defensively (playing well, by the way). So we don't have a creative midfield. Fist half we involved Colombia thanks to Paulinho finally showing some skills and Hulk, Maicon and Marcelo.

Also,

David Luiz and Thiago =

Neymar =

After he failed to do anything to the player that broke one of Neymar's vertebrae?

It's quite likely Brazilians will want to return the favour and leave the referee in a clinic for a while now

Fred draws defenders towards him, allowing the other attackers to have space to score. Unfortunately, Hulk doesn't know how to keep his shots from being sent to planet Jupiter when he has the opportunity to score. I'll also add Fred is good on defense during set piece situations, proven once again tonight. He's just not getting lucky enough to score but he's holding his own out there.

It's a shame that Neymar is finished for the tournament but hopefully we'll get a chance to see Bernard shine.

It was a very physical game both sides giving as good as they got. At one point in the second half I thought a fight was going to break out at center field. I was surprised Neymar's injury was that serious. I didn't think the conact was egregious. Like I said before one pitch ref and players flopping at every opportunity. I feel bad for Neymar but I think it was the culmination of hits and a fragile constitution. Big lose but Brazil isn't a one player team like Uruguay.

I couldn't watch the game but I was following the text commentary on the BBC and everyone on there was saying the referee was refusing to show a yellow card when Brazil were fouling James Rodriguez at every opportunity. So it sounds like Brazil were being very cynical and they ended up paying a big price for encouraging a physical match.

With no Neymar and no Thiago Silva I think Brazil are going to really struggle to beat Germany.

Also, it seems Brazil were getting help from more than just the referee:

I get that everyone in the world wants to see a 9 who moves around the field like Ronaldo but no matter who Scolari selected for this tournament, we simply weren't going to get that. He went with the next best thing; Fred. Fred is known for scoring a ton of goals, which he showed he is capable of doing when he finally was selected as a regular on the squad. He's just very unlucky this tournament not to be scoring. Even Neymar was quoted saying that they aren't doing a good enough job feeding Fred the ball in the 18 yard box.

What does anything I've said so far have to do with the "Brazilian style of things?" I'm curious.

The Brazilian style of things is that there is no luck involved. These people live and breathe soccer, and mediocrity on the national team is not something they enjoy putting up with. Yet you keep praising a forward that's just playing shitty. A center forward is supposed to score, what's happening to Fred is not a lack of luck, it's incompetence. I forgot how many balls he lost on a counter attack already.

So while luck is certainly a part of the game everywhere else in the world, it somehow doesn't have a place in the "Brazilian style of things?"

Ok. I guess we won't be getting very far on this part of the conversation if that is how you feel.

In regards to Fred himself, I'm only pointing out some positive things I've noticed from his play. I agree that he has been a bit underwhelming in the scoring department but at the same time, he doesn't really seem to be getting many chances either. He does at least have 1 goal.

It's about the mentality and perspective of the country. Lucky things happen in soccer but there is no luck involved in playing well.
