I dunno. From what I've heard he doesn't do a lot of fundamental work, rather he is a very good trader who captures bits of profit here and there, only doing it billions of times. Maybe I'm mistaken, but I have also heard stories of analysts that refuse to go into his office because they don't view him as an investor. Either way, he sure ain't no buy and hold type and he's a billionaire.

Steve Cohen runs SAC Capital, one of the biggest and most successful hedge funds out there. He was ranked 137th on Forbes World's Richest People list in 2008. Not too shabby. Perhaps he just prefers to keep a low profile.

Mine is a bloomberg terminal (Which is really just software that runs on twin-panel monitors off a nice Dell computer). For work it is a soft dollar expense. I think they run about $1000/month or something. As far as what I gain out of it? It can do just about anything but walk to the kitchen and get me a beer. There are so many functions and features and limitless data that I don't even know about. I use it for all sorts of things. I have a live news ticker, various real-time charts of different market sectors, securities, etc. I have customized screens. I have real time quotes. I usually have a few core functions that I use for the most part, but there are literally thousands of screens and what seems like limitless access to data if you want to find something. I've never used a reuters terminal (I'm not really familiar with them), but my bias would be that Bloomberg is superior. I'm attached to my bloomberg at the hip sometimes.

Raymond James Financial uses the Reuters terminal. One of the brokers showed me his data feeds. Pretty awesome stuff. For now, I'm stuck using financial websites.

it's just funny to hear someone so young say life savings......i'm 26 and i've never thought of anything I have as life savings....and my bank deposits are not insubstantial.

It's the time value of money. The more time you have to invest, the larger your future value will be. I learned this at 19, which gives me more time than most people have started with.

krypt, you have plenty of time to catch up bud...Your mindset alone puts you way ahead of most people in their 30's. You don't have any problem retiring 20 years early. So you had to sacrifice a few thousand to help someone in your family.. That's what money is for isn't it? My goal is to make enough money to live comfortably and to have some left over to help those I care about. I want my little sister to have a good life and I'm going to help her whenever I can...and if my mom gets in a pinch, I will gladly give up a big chunk of my savings to help her out. She has given far more to me during my lifetime.

Don't worry man...It's not the end of the world. You'll make every penny back and then some. Just don't do anything crazy like joining the air force and getting yourself shot down

and at the end of the day, it's only money. If you don't spend it, it's worthless!
