Center stages are not all that cool, at POP the energy just went out the window, you can only see the DJ about 10% of the time so when he gets stoked about a part of a song no one knows!

And if Jes shows up she doesnt count - she is terrible and is booked everywhere haha.Aruna is from LA, look into her as a guest vocalist.

I dont think anyone will truly be happy with everything Insomniac does for us. they add tyas and patterson, well thats awesome BUT why didnt they do any b2b sets? if they do that, well then thats great but why didnt they do any blah blah blah etc etc. it's such a spoiled brat mentality. im stoked for whats coming, it gets bigger and better every year. multiple headliner worthy artists on 2 main stages, also making a generally ONLY trance stage, with tyas, patterson, lawrence, and emery. i think it sounds sick, and the ONE artist i wouldve liked to see again Marco V is playing Audiotistic with Cosmic Gate. Insomniac is doing a damn good job.

Yeah, I dislike Daniel Kandi too.

Seriously though, if you made the event 18+ you still would get a ton of kandi adults and the event would be significantly smaller. Smaller attendance --> less $$ for djs --> less djs. It is a tradeoff.

spoiled brat mentality?

It's idiotic to not want things better. If no one wants things better, then there's no incentive for Insomniac to try to be better. Or any other promoter for that fact. The good production groups/promoters take the good with the good, and the bad with the bad. You just have to realize it's ALWAYS going to be a lot more bad. That's just human mentality for you. And when you hear the bad, don't take it personally. Take what makes you actually go "oh, that's a good point" and work on that to make it better. Ignore the rest. People like to rant, including myself.

Everyone here has always wanted and will always want the production quality and lineups you see in Europe. 10 years ago Massive werent' big int he US. You had some, and some went off well, but they did suffer for awhile until exploding again in the mid-2000s.

Now massives are HUGE on the west coast, especially in SoCal. And Insomniac and GoVentures have their foot down on the big ones in SoCal. 100,000 here, 100,000 people there. 70,000 here, 60,000 there. At upto $75 a pop. Yet, the lineups aren't overall nearly as polished as you see in Europe, and the production is still a pretty far cry from the ones you see there. . And they aer usually nearly half that price. Maybe more when you convert Euros to Dollars, but prices aren't set based on the exchange rates.

And until someone does both - the lineup and the production to the scale you see in Europe considering the prices that are charged - people are going to want more and complain for more. And when prices go up and things are taken away (like the open bar initially was), people are going to bitch even more.

That's just how things are. Always have been, always will be.

I personally don't blame them. This is America. America is greedy for money. And we also spend it shamelessly half the time. When it comes to business, it's all maximizing the dollar as much you can, whenever you can. I understand this. And if I were a businessman doing this, I don't know if I would be doing anything different. I might say I would right now, but who knows. Now, on the other side as a fan of the scene, I use to always watch DVDs of massive over in Europe. Sensation (when the lineups were good back in the day). Trance Energy. Tiesto in Concert, Dance Valley, Mysteryland, Global Gathering, I can go on. WHATEVER. And I always wanted to experience THAT. That production, lineups of that caliber. And well I'm not getting any younger. I need that shit before I die!

I think we're on the tip of the iceberg of someone finally having a European-level production and I think many other feels it too...so time to gripe more until it happens. Even if it takes complaining for more years.

I

im not speaking generally. i realize european events are far more advanced than ours but i also see that Insomniac events have grown a vast amount since their inception. what i am saying is why do we gripe and complain about these minute details when the grand scape of things has improved tenfold since last EDC. nobody can just sit back, look at the lineup and go wow, this is way better than the years prior. instead we nitpick and create bullshit drama as to why our events arent up to par with europe. of course we want things better, but can no one see that they are? I dont see how this mentality of greed and complaining until we get our way is somehow "American" and acceptable. thats definitely not how i would label myself.

spoiled mentality? no. i have interned with ID&T three years ago and when you help with the accounting and finances and see how though its more then here, its really not by much. Its the small details that we keep mentioning. Live sets where you only get at the festivals or live guests. Production that brings people who arent festival fans out for the festival experience and not just talent, the end time of the event, etc. It all adds up. The goal is to not just get people who previously attended to come again, but to attract more. Sure LA doesnt need to, as its packed already. Insomniac and GV found what they need to do and how to profit well. But for others who have had the experience outside of the US or have seen videos and lineups, there will always be more to be needed. Its not bitching, we respect what has been changed from previous years, but just saying what we would like in the future. I for one think Insomniac has done much more than Ultra in the last few years when it comes to improvements. So i commend them on that. Just would like the extra put into it and less into wallets. But it is a business and so you get what you get.

There are some legit issues with Insomniac that are worth getting angry about, such as the horrible lines at EDC2008 and the most recent VIP 7-drink vs. open bar controversy. Although these problems never should have arisen, it seems that Insomniac tries to remedy these problems and Henry probably has some role in getting these problems fixed.

Personally, I think that some people get too upset at the lineups. We all have our ideal lineups but Insomniac has to deal with the politics of booking DJs and assigning time slots. Insomniac needs to make a lot of business decisions and some decisions are bound to disappoint a lot of people. They must be doing something right... the crowds have been growing rapidly the past couple years, so much so that they added a second day for EDC last year.

EDM fanatics feel that the lineups could be more coherent, which I agree with. It is ok to want something better and to let Henry know about your ideas. Some people state their ideas in a positive way, which is productive. But the tone oftentimes is unnecessarily negative in this thread.
