thats complete bullshit ... that free kick was perfectly legitimate .. rules state that a player can take an early freekick if he informs the referee about it and in the process he forfeits any chances of a retake incase of an obstruction by the opposition
Must be a very little used rule b/c I've seen attacking team be forced to retake freekicks b/c they didn't wait for the ref's whistle.

it is .. but ur supposed to tell the referee before you take the kick that you will be taking it before the whistle.. and UEFA today backed the legitimacy of the goal and threw out lille's appeal to replay the game
notice (in the replays) that giggs was indeed saying something to the referee before taking the kick

the vast majority of the time referees do not allow quick free kicks to be taken around the area. everyone knows that. by the letter of the law he may have gotten it right, but by the standards established game-to-game during actual play he has got it dead wrong. you know that it's rarely allowed. yeah henry did it but the instances where teams have tried to take it quickly and been told not to by the ref far outnumber the rare instances when it's been allowed. you lot were very fortuitous to get that goal. i have no problem with quick free quicks as that is allowed for by the rules, but why do refs only allow this to happen once every few months? it's an inconsistency which has gifted you jammy lot a goal.

exactly its up to the ref and this time he said to giggs he can take it quick and he did there was no luck about it and uefa agreed they threw lille's appeal out cause they clearly didnt have a case.
Most teams when there is a free kick stand someone over the ball so the opposition cant take it lille didnt do this they were to busy fannying around with their wall and were punished i felt sorry for them but that goal was perfectly legit.
Yeah, none of it is Man U's fault, the referee did a terrible job. And the referee should think about both teams, and a re-take would have been a much more logical decision.

yea ... we got 2 liverpool fans supporting the goal's legitimacy .. that should be more than enough to convince anyone who doubt's the goal was incorrect

the goal is technically legit, but as we all know quick free kicks around the area are seldom allowed. inconsistency by the referees has in this case all but gifted you lot passage to the next round, whilst dooming lille undeservedly. this inconsistency is simply not fair. the governing bodies need to sort this.

that was funny
even if the score had stayed 0-0, we would still have been overwhelming favorites to go through at home .. i really dont know what lille are whining about. If the game is a 1-1 draw then maybe they could have something to cry about ... god i hope we spank them like 5-0 or something and shut them up about 1 goal

don't be stupid. that 1 away goal is very significant at this point. it's made lille's already slim chances of progressing diminish even further. yes, you may very well win the next leg 5-0, or it could be a lot closer than you think...

He should have realised the inconsistency, as it is there's a big debate, rather than everyone in News Papers etc blaming the referee.
