its not like other djs dont get requests too. but they only toss in the requests if they feel they can. nobody hates them for not playing a track.

This is exactly right. A DJ, especially one of international caliber, knows when to play a track and when not to. It's up the DJ, and it always is - if the DJ plays it and it weakens the set, it's because the DJ is weak.

I requested Castamara because I know Armin likes to drop this at peak time. I waited an hour and 15 minutes before I held the sign up, to where I felt, as a DJ myself, it would be /reasonable/ to make a request for the track, and Armin waited a few tracks himself before he made the move to drop it. And I feel that it worked really well in the set anyways. I feel like he would have played it anyways. I also texted Armin for Love Theme Dusk towards the end of his set, but he didn't play it, and I respect him for that decision.

Well a lot of people I've seen on here say that a DJ is there to appeal to the crowd. I actually like to think of it the other way around, which helps when a DJ changes styles.

I am there to listen to what the DJ wants to play, the sound/atmosphere they want to create. If I like it, awesome I found another DJ I can listen to. If its not my thing, I can move on.

This is what happens when people start bashing DJs. The DJ no longer plays what people want them to, and so the are cast as sell outs, or what ever. I just believe they went in another direction, which did not match up with I wanted to hear. No worries.

Let the DJ play I say.

Exactly, especially when you have that many people requesting. Also, people are obviously going to request tracks they know, which in my mind would hinder the DJs ability/want to play unknown tracks, if all the crowd is requesting is big tunes.
