speaking of sluts...
A running theme lately is how malleable the definition of "slut" has become. Not all women follow this pattern, but it seems that as a woman's number of partners increases, the definition of "slut" shifts in their mind.
When a girl is inexperienced, she might think, "Oh, that girl has been with 6 guys. What a slut."
Now in the double digits, that magic "slut count" keeps rising in order to keep her from falling in the classification.
Finally, she concludes that "slut" is an outmoded concept without value or meaning in todays society. Usually this is because by this point she has to reach that conclusion, or consider herself a "raging slut".
The title "Slut" carries negative connotations and is quite derogatory - but in my opinion it still has a place. I don't think it's outmoded - just, like many terms, insulting. Other terms are used - "loose", "easy", or my favorite, "previously enjoyed".
It's a negative term because it is a judgement on the part of the viewer. It is a conclusion - and usually not a pleasant one. It implies a degradation in value. "That girl has slept with six guys I know - she's a total slut, and I wouldn't date her."
And I believe that some women are simply sluts, and their value is lowered in my mind. That is a societal judgement call. And those who would say, "judge not yest ye be judged", well, sadly we all judge each other all the time. Most of the time we don't speak up, that's all.
