This is always the most stressful shit for me. I actually do go to Ultra every year for the Cox arena, and I usually go to Space afterwards. Even though I get the 2 am ticket every time, there's been a couple of times where I was late, as you're basically forced to go the room, shower, change, and then get to Space and then get through the fucking line. I noticed they improved this process by stationing the willcall AFTER you see the doorman, but that only matters if you don't have printouts.
And I've seen the policy applied in different ways. Last year for the Minus party, I didn't get in until 2:35 but everyone with 2 am presales already in line were deemed "ok" to let through without a surcharge. Obviously I've also experienced times where I've been royally fucked in the ass by the giant Space weanie where they intentionally slow it down to make you pay more.
