From the highlights on the Premiership it looked like Stephen Carr had a great game for Spurs, he put in some great crosses, helped out with the attacks and defended well. We should have put in a bid.
Czechstar, that formation doesn't look bad although I'm not sure it would suit our style of play. Firstly, Robert (Dyer might be better in that free role?) would have to get far enough forward to unsettle defenders otherwise Shearer will be man-marked out of the game. Secondly, we are not particularly strong going through the centre and I think our opponents are beginning to notice that. We need Solano back, Bowyer just isn't a winger and won't provide the crosses. Solano's goal against Partizan was a cross into the box, Shearer's goal against Man U was a cross into the box, and Ameobi's goal against Birmingham was a cross into the box. We can really unsettle sides doing this but now that Solano is missing on the right Shearer just isn't getting the service.
Newcastle basically aren't very good at attacking through the centre. We need more creativity, Dyer runs all day but with no end product and on the edge of the box he often has no ideas. Viana is an amazing passer, he would offer us more creativity attacking through the centre of midfield and he showed against Birmingham in Malaysia he is capable of accurate long-range shots, wheras Dyer can't shoot to save his life. Meanwhile Solano and Robert can provide the crosses, with Speed as our holding midfielder.
So in short I like your team selection, I just think the diamond formation might not utilise the flanks enough, might make us weaker in attack and could still leave Speed all on his own when it comes to defending. Basically Bobby needs to buy someone, it's painfully obvious now.

Well.. where to start..As a true Newcastle fan, i should be backing the team no matter what. But things are gonna have to change, otherwise the whole club will be in an upheavel.
Again we were just pathetic against Partizan. All credit to them, coz they played very well and were deserved winners.
I am just shellshocked and absolutely devastated by the performance. We are not tittle challengers! We are not CL quater finalists! We are a mid table team once again.
Sir Bobby has to reshape the team and we need reinforcements. For a manager to stand there and just say we do not need anyone else coming in, doesnt belong as a manager.
For starters, the whole defence needs to be thrown into the bin(except Woodgate). SBR's faith in Obrien,Bramble,Hughes,Griffin is becoming inexhaustible and they will never get any better. its sounds harsh, but if we want to become a force we need to rebuild that defence!
Robert needs to be shown the door. His lack of consistency is hurting us severely. Viana is woeful...how we can spend 8.5m pounds just totally blows my mind away. Dyer performed alright..still made energetic runs through midfield caused Partizan problems. However he lacked that edge that he is renowned for. I thought Solano was brilliant in the first half, but 2nd he played as poorly as everyone else did. Which was quite a shock to be honest.
A new striker is needed to partner Shearer. Alan isnt just a one man team and lets face it, if he doesnt score no one else scores. None of our other forwards create anything descent when the play. Belles only dubbed 7 goals last season, which is just not good enough and players like ameobi, lualua have had their chances.. time to get rid of them.
Dont worry..i havent forgotten big Fat Freddy Shepherd. What in the HELL!! has happened with the money from last CL?!?!? We were rated as one of the healthiest teams in England behind Man UTD. Its just disappeared and now we have no cash at all to strengthen the squad..
Its time for the club to face reality abd begin from scratch.
I predict tough times ahead this season and i think failure is much on the cards in the Premiership.
This is all harsh, but it has to be said

This is a devastating start to the season, but the only way is up. Remember our start last year was awful as well, and we finished 3rd in the end. I find it very suspicious about the lack of transfers, the club boasted that last year was their best financial year ever, yet they've spent fuck all since and have offered no explanation. Serious questions have to be asked about the lack of transfers. Deep down Bobby knows we need new defenders, he said so in a number of post-match interviews late last season and comments on it fairly regularly. I suspect it's not his decision, it's probably that the club simply aren't making the funds available for him. Bobby isn't a tight-arse, this is the guy that bought Ronaldo (the proper one) and has made other high-profile signings in his career.
Sadly I like everyone else thought this was set to be the most competitive Premier League ever, but it's beginning to look like the 'big three' rather than the 'big five', as Liverpool and Newcastle both look like their game is seriously lacking something. It doesn't bare thinking about what would happen if Shearer picked up an injury again. Robert is a very frustrating player but he's one of only a few who's prepared to have a dig at goal. Too much of our gameplay revolves around setting up the perfect goalscoring chance, as a result we have very few shots on goal even against poor opposition. Viana, Jenas, Bowyer and Robert all like to have a shot on goal, but only one of those 4 is played regularly and in his proper position. Dyer and Speed can't shoot to save their lives and Solano is better as an out and out winger putting in crosses.
What pisses me off the most is the team selections, they're so predictable. Look at the post I made above, I posted that before the lineups were made public and I got it 100% correct. Managers can virtually guarantee who Newcastle will play and adjust their tactics accordingly, we don't offer any surprises. We play people out of position (Speed, Bowyer, Viana, Jenas, Hughes), and some players are blatantly favoured over others no matter how badly they play (Dyer, Speed and Robert are very rarely dropped while Solano, Griffin, Hughes and Bernard are dropped without question).
Winning today would have been very lucrative for us but we are a big club who have just finished our best season in a long time - where is the money?! Where has it gone? It's time the club was straight with us as to what the fuck is going on.
A win against Birmingham on Saturday is crucial for the team's morale as well as putting points on the table.
Howay the lads
