I dont know how much we spent moving here. We got a landed immigrant visa...we had relatives here so we stayed with them till we got setled (2 months or so) and we took it from there.
How did you spend 70 ginos? Is taht including moving furniture and what not as well?

I think it also depends what country you are moving from too. I hear that if you are immigrating from China you have to have 20 000 in the bank before Cananda even considers you. I don't know where I heard this from. |
Generally to get landed immigrant papers you have to meet certain criteria(good profession, knowledge of english, certain age etc), but if you have $200,000(not sure about the figure) you can get papers without meetnig these criteria because you have lots of money. Note, however, that in this case you still have that money. Nobody takes it away from you.
Why do you think there is sooo many immigrants from Hong Kong here? If you own an apartment in Hong Kong you are as good as Canadian Citizen. [EDIT: To avoid any misunderstanding it's totally cool with me that there is lots of immigrants from HK. As long as you guys can speak English properly so people can understand ya. j/k ]
I'm against accepting refugees though. I don't see the point in that. I think it just increases the amount of people on welfare, but I don't have any evidence to back this up, so I could be totally wrong.

wells this is actually true. it all depends on how much ecomical capital you can bring over here and how old you are when you're immigrating also plays a big role.
As for the refugee thing wells i don't really know the statistics behind that either, but I like most ppl likely wouldn't want refugess living in our neighbourhoods. However Canada as a developed nation has to share the burden with the rest of the developed world to curb the global economic crisis of the developing nations. So yeah I still think we should help out in some way .. how we do it is another question ..

That really should not be a provblem for most of the MArkham peeps anywho, they all own some sorts of factoried in HK anyways.
I have 3 passports, Canadian, EU, and Serbian. Triple Citizenship in the hizzouse.
Now reffering to the enying refugee status remark, I agree %100.
