I'm thinking about writing a trance song in 7/8 time, since I study classical music and love writing trance and have nothing better to do with my time. It actually wouldn't be that hard, the only thing thats challenging is coming up with a good uplifting melody in 7/8, cuz most pieces of music in that time are kinda akward or evil sounding.
To anyone who can't figure out how a 7/8 trance track would feel beat-wise, here's how it would probably work:
4/4 can be subdivided into 8/8. The 1st, 3rd, 5th and 7th eighths are the kicks, and 2nd, 4th, 6th and 8th eights are the high-hats. When you do a trance song in 7/8, it would be the same except you take out the last high hat and replace it with the first kick of the next measure and repeat. To the listener it should sound and feel akward, but hey, thats what one of those things that makes life interesting.

Three Drives On a Vinyl - Greece 2000 is in a minor key, as well as most other famous trance songs. More recent examples are:
Plastic Boy - Live Another Life
Motorcycle - As the Rush Comes
Tiesto - Traffic
Cor Fijneman feat. Jan Johnston - Venus (Tiesto Mix)
To be honest the aren't nearly as many big trance songs in major keys. Examples of pupular trance songs that are major:
Agnelli and Nelson - Everyday
Paul van Dyk - Nothing But You
Paul van Dyk - Time of Our Lives (PvD is an acception, he likes to write upbeat music)
Circ - Destroy She Said
Junkie XL - Breezer
Just remember, any song that is happy sounding is in major, and any song that is dreary, sad, angry, or desparate sounding is minor. It's usually pretty easy to tell once you get the feel for it. There are some deep trance songs tha are neither in major or minor keys. Examples are:
Amoeba Assassin - Piledriver (Grayed Out Summer Mix)
Slusnik Luna - Sun
Taste Experience - Summersault

Trance is 4/4. In fact most EDM is 4/4, but the rhythm of the kick can be different, e.g in Drum and Bass.
Burned with Desire still has the same 32 beat phrase structure that trance has. DnB also follows a 32 beat phrase structure. Remember that there is a distinction between the pulse of the music, and the rhythm of the beat. Trance couldn't be 3/4 (i.e waltz time) as the 32 beat phrase structure wouldnt work.
8 x 3 = 24
8 x 4 = 32
you would be a whole 8 beats behind, and would need to have an extra 8 beat phrase to be in sync with all other trance tunes.

no. Purely for the fact that you couldn't follow the structure that all trance has. it would be a type of EDM, and it wouldn't mix with anything due to the difference in beats.
and Andy Hunter - Go does have a kick, what do you think you are listening to at 2:15 into the track
