The problem is when producers/DJs that have been around a long time hog the spotlight and get attention for lack-lustre productions just because of their past accomplishments...

We all know there are plenty of young talented producers/DJs out there that aren't getting the recognition they deserve just because many of the the old schoolers are hesistant to give them a chance.

Also - every generation is becoming more computer-literate than the one before it - lots of ppl are experimenting with making music just because they have the tools available to them at home. Just take a look in the Amateur section on this site and you'll see that.

Point being that once Trance reaches saturation in its current strong markets then it has to already be on a path of expansion elsewhere to keep things evolving. The internet and MP3 have done both of those for electronica - remove the latter and your exposure is limited to clubs/raves & albums, remove the former and you have no economically viable avenue to spread the sound globally to new regions - resulting in less demand to fly over DJs to spin and less familiarity with names that would result in album/vinyl sales.

I wrote about this stuff over a year ago.

Fact of the matter is trance is not dead there are many young artists up and coming, to be honest this is classic alarmist BS. Go look through the other dumb trance is dead threads from back in the day....2002 came along and poof trance is the shit again. You guys really need to open your horizons past 2 weeks...

Come on, don't you ever get tired of trance? After tune after tune of formulaeic bullshit "this is the new hard trance tune", "this is the new Silence" as you all blind yourself to the fact that every single tune these days is exactly the same as the last, as more and more major producers begin to slip as we reach the point where there is no originality left. Since 2001 its all been the same, rising artists are either crap or they copied old styles. Frankly I can't see anything new on the horizon and flame me as you will, I don't care, its still true.

I've given up. I haven't bought a new release since June, I've been going back to old techno and hardcore records, looking at something that while it's old is refreshing. Trance hasn't died in terms of supporters, of sales, of size, its died in regards of creativity, and the worst part is we've turned away from it, refused to accept it, built a wall around it so solid that we can't even see it anymore.

Not being a member of the forum for long doesn't mean you haven't been keeping up with the scene, and that I have no experience of trance music for the past few years.

I'm not quite sure how you figure that i'm still living back in the day, in fact i was referring to a thread that was created long before you ever posted in these forums. The simple fact is the death of trance has been heralded before and the naysayers were proven wrong, this thread is no different.

Sorry you feel left out..

Fair enough, but your statement that rising artists are either crap or copiers is at the very least innacurate and at worst pure BS.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion in the end, but i have to agree with mizzuno on this one.

Also, i was going to say this earlier, but changed my mind after writing it.

Charts, generally, mean crap. If you go by Charts, then Trance was essentially dead here after Darude - Sandstorm hit (I don't even think Heaven made it out here). And by saying that Scooter made it big in the chart, you prove my point. The charts you are referring to, to me, represent the commercial trance scene. If you want a good representation of electronic, you need to stay underground.

I haven't heard a genuinely fresh track from er... anyone for over a year, and certainly not a rising artist. Now that may be bull to you, but it's experience to me. Name me some tracks that have actually brought something new to the table.

And this phobia of the charts is idiotic, and frankly is what is killing trance. If more records made it to the mainstream there'd be more money pumped into the scene, more exploration and longer life. You're just plain stupid if you think that a track is crap purely because it has sold lots.

Please don't put words in my mouth. No where did i say that because it makes it to a chart automatically makes it crap. No where did i say that because it is commercial trance it is crap. I said that charts mean crap and really only represent (like you said) what the general population wants to here. There is a difference. When good commercial trance is released, then i'd buy it.

I happen to like ATB - 9pm ('till i come) and ATB - Don't Stop (They also helped me get into the scene) and didn't they make it in the charts? I own ATB's Movin' Melodies CD and still listen to it.
