Seriously, it sounds corny, but music IS my religion. |
Pulser said it... Phat track too...
nah, seriously, my $0.02:
I think that generally, music taste in general is a purely personal thing, sure, it is influenced by your social surroundings and in the case of strict religious families, parents may stop their children from listening to trance/techno etc. because of the attached drug references and just the fact that, like it or not, drugs are fairly present in the whole clubbing/raving scene... But then again, which (responsible) parent would encourage their kids to go out and get messed up three nights a week?
I dont think that is a religious thing... You also have to remember that trance, like it or not, in most places of the world, is a minority genre of music. If you ask someone in the general public about trance, most likely you will get a response along the lines of "boring repetitive music that people get high to" which we all here, being tranceADDICTS, know is not true, but also being here, we all also know that it CAN be repetitive and ive already mentioned the drug thing. Not meaning to subdivide the community or anything but, is it just that the non-religious portion of society are more tolerant to drug issues than the religious, i think that religion is a good idea, in that it upholds morals that, generally all people should follow religious or not, the ideas are good, but the fact is, that religion as a whole has lost its steam, the fear factor that it instilled in years past is no longer present, the new generation of religious followers are questioning their beliefs, they want evidence. sure, we all know drugs are dangerous, be they x, speed, alcohol, tobacco, even things like paracetamol or the like, all CAN be dangerous, but only if used in the wrong way.
In summary, i think that the whole religious vs. techno thing is purely a matter of religious followers trying to keep themselves safe from drug issues. Imagine what the whole electronig genre would be like without drugs... it would be entirely different. the whole idea of this sort of music is to excite, energise and give adrenalin rushes, which is a drug of itself in some sort of ways.
It is something that you either do or don't like and i dont think that being religious aside from drug issues, has anything to do with actually liking the music.
Music is merely a search for what makes a person happy, what in their opinion is good and keeps them interested. As is this, it is MY opinion as are other people entitled to theirs, i have tried to ride the fence a little and my beliefs on religion on a whole are another topic.
And on a more lightheartened note:
"And For tonight, God Is A DJ"
