I have been a fan of electronic music for a little under a decade now, but what really locked me into the world of trance was tiesto in his 99/00 days (as with oakey in his 98-00 days). His Energy 2000 set blew me away - you could probably say its the best set of all time

anyway, I thought he deserved top DJ in 2001, he completely changed the face of trance, and electronic in general.

lately though, I have not been a fan of his productions/sets. I never download any sets of his sets anymore, and I really dislike his productions, not my stlye at all.

the man definitley deserved the #1 spot at one point in his career, hes just recieving the recognition a little late. this will probably be Tiesto's last big year - but just because his recent stuff isnt too wonderful, dont deny the man respect for what he did to trance - same story with Oakenfold

on another note, you'de think Tjis would be banging muchhhhhh hotter chicks!

i'll admit i'm not a tiesto fan by no stretch of the imagination. but the guy has obviously listened to this set and heard tiestos mixing and by the sounds of things it has been shite.

I find it really annoying that i have seen or heard dj's live that are so much more better at actually dj'ing than tiesto but he has the tag of best in the world, when really he is just the most popular. so don't start all this shite about how everyone knocks tiesto.

In my view they should rename the poll, most popular dj, so people who don't listen to trance, techno or whatever are not mislead into thinking tiesto is playing with dex efx and samplers while still managing to average a mix of one tune every two minutes.

He's not a good technical dj.

In this case the ones bashing are the actors themselves. The people who constantly bash great DJs like Tiesto are normally frustrated DJs/Producers who spend their free time making this kind of threads that will obviously end in some kind of flame war. Oh give me a break. You actually believe that? This is just honest criticism, not some sneaky plot of targeting someone to vent inner frustrations. Yes, we're all against Tiesto because we're cursing to ourselves in front of our decks and loop programs, thinking nothing but "damn that Tiesto and his popularity!" How ridiculous.

I think Tiesto is an amazing producer, but he definitely does not deserve the title of #1 DJ in the world, and absolutely doesn't deserve it this year as well. I think he's a very good DJ who played well in 2002 -- some of his sets, particularly from that year, are favorites of mine -- but now this is just getting out of control and detached from the reality of his ability.

Anyways, I suppose I should rescind my arguments based on this set, which is why I posted the thread. I was not there to witness techincal problems, etc .. leading to monumental trainwrecks.

However - I am not one in a small group who likes to "bash big DJs to feel cool." I am simply stating what the vast majority of the EDM world has come to realize, and the ones who haven't are those like you who are blinded by the light (or in Tijs case, $$ signs).

The VAST majority of the EDM community does not constitute a few dozen people on TA and trance.nu. The plural majority of the EDM community elected Tiesto as the #1 dj. Renowned djs and producers such as Danny Howells and John Digweed have recognized that in published interviews where they have stated that Tiesto deserves the award because he's the best at what he does, he works really hard to have a huge global presence/influence on the global scene and the people love him for it.

Don't tell me that most people that vote in the poll are clueless newbies because you have no way to prove that. The evidence is there. Only true artists have ever gotten the award while the blatantly commercial bunch such as Sammy, Pearce, Ian van Dahl, Darude etc. hardly make a presence on that list. Tiesto joins the hall of fame along with Sasha, Digweed, Carl Cox, Oakey, Tall Paul etc. in being one of the leading voices in electronic dance music of our times. That's all there is to it.
