Ask any student (or business entrepeneur in fact) and they'll tell you, their mantra is to make as much money (ie: profit) as possible. It's just the mentality. And ultimately, success in business is gauged by that margin of profit.

Heh. What they always forget to add is that the living standards all over the world are getting better. Everywhere. Just because the rich are getting richer at a faster rate and the poor are getting richer at a slower rate doesnt mean something's wrong

In my opinion, a firm cannot be greedy. THere is no greed in capatalism. When firms do better as a whole, we do better.
I guess you could say that economically, greed is the sole purpose of the business firm.
But by the same token, what other purposed does a firm have other than making money?

To provide some sort of service to society by their products. A firm should not just be able to make money they actually have to do something for that money.
