fuck people...i'll take the pet...

I wouldn't let my pet die any sooner than any other member of my family. We are all animals, so in my mind there's nothing that says humans are better than dogs. Some say they'd do it for the possible sex or money that they'd get from the stranger, but think of it this way: if it were a family member or a stranger, who would you save? You're not going to get sex (i hope) or money from a family member, but he or she still comes first, right?

if it was my dog, then him, cos he's such a big part of my routine & life, but if it was some ugly cat or something then i'd just save the stranger if they were a nice person

Stranger, unless it was a stranger pet. In this case I would save MY pet

I'd save the pet - if the person was panicking they would no doubt try to drown you to save themselves

Of course, if I was supercool, I'd save both, and if the person tried to drown me, I'd have the pet attack them any way possible...or I'd do it myself
