Trance Breaks/Progressive Breaks:
Hybrid - Unfinished Symphony

Hey Lira... I am really interested in reading your book/guide. Would you mind e-mailing it to me when you are finished? I have a feeling that I could learn a lot about edm through it. BTW, Hybrid- Finished Symphony is the best prog. trance/breaks track of all time! Good choice for that category!

i think trance breaks and prog breaks are two completely different things, even if Hybrid - Finished Symphony kinda falls in the middle. trance breaks would be something like Al Azar - Shattered Dreams and prog breaks would be something like the examples i said before, Petter - These Days, Momu - The Dive..

I thought about doing a guide a while ago. this is wot i got for the trance related genre's. the melodic/epic trance split is a dubious one but also one that can be heard.

I think the tracks and genre names i have chose for tech trance and the harder genres should definatly be used as they are 100% correct.

Progressive Trance

Piece Process - Solar Myth
Andain - Beautiful Things (Gabriel & Dresden Unplugged Mix)
James Holden & Thompson - Nothing (93 Returning Mix)

Melodic Trance

Armin van Buuren - Burned With Desire (Rising Star Remix)
Envio - Touched By The Sun
Chicane - Autumn Tactics (Thrillseekers Club Mix)

Epic/Uplifting Trance

Re:Locate - Waterfall
Pervading Call - Destiny (Ace's Delight Instrumental Mix)
Plastic Boy - Silver Bath

Tech Trance

Marco V - The Mutalisk
The Freak - Rising Angel
Mike Robbins - Are You A Freak (Marcel Woods Tech Trance Mix)

European Hard Trance

DJ Scot Project - O (Overdrive)
Signum - Coming On Strong (SHOKK Remix)
Kai Tracid - Conscious (Energy Mix)

Hard Tech Trance

Mark Norman - Phantom Manor
F&W - You Will Understand
Igor S - Boomerang (Igor S Mix)

UK Hard Trance

Lee Haslam - Music Is the Drug
Guyver - Differences

Hardstyle

Deepack - The Prophecy
Marc Et Claude - Loving You (DJ Isaac Remix)
Tuneboy - Demolition (Technoboy Remix)

Re: Re: Calling all techno junkies, prog heads, house freaks and other elitists in ge

DRM: Thanks Yes, the split is a bit dubious, because the term "uplifting" itself is very subjective. But no worries, I'm slowly finding ways to solve this problem

groovable, Anno Domino, douglasmc: thanks Well, I guess we got a good amount of prog house by now, thank you lot

montana: w00t, thanks again, mate hehe, I find it funny that there's the word euphoria in these chill-out compilations, go figure what these guys had in mind

butterfly420: I woulnd't mind at all Could you just send me a pm (you and anyone else who's interested) to remind me? It's just that this guide is gonna take a bit long to be concluded, and this way I know what people would like to receive the pm's (so there's no risk of annoying anyone )

As for this part here...

No, that's not what he's trying to do. Maaz's guide is supposed to be more objective. He is friends with Ishkur anyway, he'll probably contribute to this one too.

These quotes are pretty much what I was going to say, but there are a fill other things I'd like to state.

First of all, I like Ishkur's guide. Why make a new one? Roughly speaking, my guide should be Yin where Ishkur's guide is Yang. Where he brings ideas and solutions for a better future, I'm gonna bring the context so we can understand the past. Where he brings the revolution and the need to change, I'm willing to show how things change and why we need revolutions. Where his guide is a irreverent critique of edm, whose purpose is to entertain before it informs, my guide is a objective analysis of edm, whose purpose is to inform before it entertains (but I will try to be humorous every now and then... anyone who knows me from TA knows I can't be serious for longer than 5 minutes ).

As you see, they're two sides of the very same thing, reason why the guides will be complementary.

By the way, there will be some biasing towards shibuya-kei since it's an old dead obscure genre that should have a come back But that's about it
-----
I hope I haven't forgotten anyone I'll keep you guys updated about the next changes

Funky House

I haven't read the whole thread, as I'm not patient enough at the moment , but when talking about Funky / Disco house, you must include Afro Medusa - Pasilda (Knee Deep Remix)!
Very funky, summer house!

An addition of Political rap to the hip-hop genre would be nice.

Thanks for the recommendations, Rooger and twisted420

And tranc3, the problem about hip-hop is that I don't know much about it (it's one of the genres I really need to explore further). If you could tell me what some good Political rap tunes are, and if possible, some info on other genres, I would appreciate it, as I really want to show the good side of hip-hop
