I ofcourse agree that is the best thing to do, girls go for assertive guys way more than shy ones.

However you can't just tell someone they shouldn't be nervous or shy, everybody is what he/she is, and simply being told to act differently won't change anything. Thats why I suggested the former.

I commend you for the suggestion. In all honesty, however, that would look even worse than not asking her at all.
