I mean, you can understand uneducated people a few hundred years ago believing this kind of rubbish but you wouldn't expect intelligent people in today's society to be so stupid.

Imagine living your life based upon whats someone else wrote in a book. Bloody hell, if you want to do that write your own book and follow that instead, I'm sure it would be more fun.

I no this is digging up old trash but i'm compelled to reply to this.

It is a fact that this countries christian population is proportionally higher with intelligent people. Intellects are moving to go into theolofy rather that politics, thus the intelligent class is more likely to accept that they may not be in control as they have less to fear.

On a seperate issue I think there could be more than one perspective on hell. The bible says that those who accept Christ are given a second life, and those who don't die. One could percieve that as saying beleivers get an immortal immaterial body and the souls of non-beleivers are simply erased.

Finaly, on the matter of Gandhi, I don't know, theres a good chance he went to heaven. This is on the theory expressed in the bible by revelation that those who had no chance to discover the Christian faith will be judged by how well they lived their lives, by which many many Muslims could go to heaven because they are so totally cut off from Christianity in places such as the middle east.

Hehe, what do I care if Gandhi is in hell or not, anyway, I'm a Roman Catholic and I know that I am sure of what I believe. To each his own. All the people have their right to choose their beliefs, but this may or may not carry consequences (depending on your religiousness or "atheism"...)

Now, Occrider, you're not actually trying to get Christians to be consistent in their beliefs are you?

Everyone knows the Christian's trick: they talk about how the bible can be "interpreted" or is "metaphorical" and proceed to believe whatever bullshit they want regardless of whether or not there's anything to back it up.

I like talking to moderate christians who sincerely want to be open-minded and relatively liberal in allowing all good people into heaven and stuff like that. I simply take the conservative drivel that fundamentalists spout (all properly researched and sourced to the bible of course) and use that against them. If you're going to believe in the crap the bible puts forth than you should damn well believe in all of it hehe.

first of all, hinduism is a very accepting religion. go into our temples and you will see statues of Lord Buddha, someone who was born a hindu and then rejected it and formed his own religion. so why should we honor him so? becuase he was a great man nonetheless...and that is what counts. hindus dont believe you will go to heaven or hell just by who you call your God. We call God Bhagvan, Christiands refer to him as Jesus many times, and Muslims as Allah. in reality, we are all refering to the same being, just in different names.

its funny because most of my friends are christiand and was shocked to find that some of them said that they believed that anyone who wasn't christian would go to hell. so i said even though i am clearly not a bad person deserving to SUFFER FOR ETERNITY i will still go to hell just because i dont use the name Jesus when i pray. that just dumbfounds me and even angers me to a degree.

all i can do is have tolerance for those who think i will eventually go to hell becuase there is not point to hate those who "hate" you.

the christian god is one god, and one god alone. the bible says "i am the lord of lords, and kings of kings".

the 10 commandments say "u shall put no other god before me"

and jesus said, "noone shall come to the father except through me"
meaning, i died for you, so that u shall be saved, and if u accept his offer and live your life for him, then u have come to god through jesus as he had said.

believe in whoever u want to, there is one god, and jesus is the only way to get to him. allah is not the same god as christianity, because jesus says "noone can come to the father except through me". not budha, not a hindu priest. only jesus.

2 Peter 3:15-17
15Bear in mind that our Lord's patience means salvation, just as our dear brother Paul also wrote you with the wisdom that God gave him. 16He writes the same way in all his letters, speaking in them of these matters. His letters contain some things that are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort, as they do the other Scriptures, to their own destruction.
17Therefore, dear friends, since you already know this, be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of lawless men and fall from your secure position.

a lot of what im reading here is just distortions of the bible into a doctrine that suits their own needs. but everyone can do what they want, but there is always a consequence.

silly. people are too busy worrying about dogma and texts from people who have contacted the divine ground to try and contact it on their own.

heaven and hell and enlightenment are in your mind, just as they were in the minds of the prophets. of course, there is no proven coorelation between experience and truth, but for those who seek the religious experience, go for it!

those who are religious should worry about the religious experience rather than following word for word some saint or monk's text. they sit in their society, knowning nothing of what caused those to create the abstraction of "God", and they watch TV and think that they are going to heaven. it's absolutely ridiculous.

Can I please some data to back up your statement that Christians are more intellectual please. What a statement.

So intelligent people are more likely to live their lives in accordance with some idea that if they are bad they will go to some place of eternal suffering? Give me a break.

Religion is the biggest con of all time, and hell is a useful tool in guilting people into subjection and staying in the flock.

Let's turn this around. Are all CHristians in hell because they haven't accepted Allah as their lord and savior?

^^ According to Islam...yes.

Hey u believe whatever u want to believe. At the end of the day..we'll all know where we end up right?

Either nowhere, heaven, or hell..or ___________(fill in the blanks, reincarnation etc)

We'll find out when we die.If I end up in hell.. then i must have done something wrong havent I? If I end up in heaven.. then yoohoo. If there really is nothing after life...then life really isnt worth living afterall.
