Agreed. Chicane is what brough a lot of my friends into the scene. Also Sasha and Oakenfold a while back. IMO, expander is one of the best tracks to introduce people to trance with.

You know what I learned why some people dont like trance. Well its said that people, you know who never heard of trance, will most likely not find it interesting due to, its repetitive music. Like I had this one friend, who never listened to trance, he has heard about it, and he happened to find a trance station, at first he didnt find it interesting, but then he kept on listening to it and he got used to it and liked it.

Thats one reason why I believe some people when they first hear Trance, say "you like this"?. I get kinda mad and tell them they should listen to it at least for a while before saying its crap. Especially my sister, she borrowed one of my breaks/trance cd and after a while listening to it on her car cd player, she started liking it.

Its funny cause I dont remember at all what was the first track I listened too that was trance. I started with that crappy techno music that you get off of p2p programs like Imesh and Kazza and shit. Well they were mostly those video game remixes shit(I thought it was amazing back then)

But if I had to thank one person it would be my cousin for intruducing me to electronic music. Later though my friend put on this cd in my cuosins truck, man this shit sounded so good(keep in mind I havent listened to trance)and I told him where the hell do you get this music. He gave me a site, and I went there and downloaded it, thats when I left Techno for breakbeats. Then from listening for like a year of just breakbeats, I found my one true passion in life "Trance Music". Man I left everything and now Trance is the best. I still listen to some breakbeat cds I have, and like Hard House also but that music doesnt compare to how I feel about Trance.

Well on with the topic, lol. I would say Tiesto, but for newbish people, I would have to say, stuff thats already Mainstream and plays in clubs and shit. Like that Dj Sammy-Heaven. Now dont get me wrong, I only say this, so they can get a taste of what Trance is sort of like, then once they get use to it, move on to more better stuff.

It also depends on their musical background in regards to how you 'wean' them onto the music you most like yourself. I'll use my girlfriend for example, her general musical taste has always been classical and chill out music.

Two years ago I sent her the 'airdrawndagger' album because I thought it would be something she could appreciate, along with some Massive Attack and Portishead. She had no interest in the Sasha album though, but had much interest in the others.

Also, for trance she doesn't have much interest. But then I play some of those trance (ambient remix) and she enjoys them a lot more. Then after she knows and appreciates the melody, she will then even like the trance version because it is something she knows.

She likes the Sultan & Tone Depth remix of Roads and also the Quivver remix of Do you really want to hurt me, because they are familar songs with familiar vocal. She even liked the white label mash-up from 99 of Moonman's 'Don't be Afraid' ove UBM 'Loving You', but again because the vocal is familiar she finds it easy to appreciate.

I don't intend to turn her into a TA, but at least she learns how to appreciate a wider range of some of the music she wouldn't normally listen to.

And now she is a fan of Sasha's 'airdrawndagger' too.

Play it safe, start with Tijs...
I started with Tijs, my mom is starting with Tijs, my best friend is starting with Tijs...

Tiesto @ Innercity 1999 concludes all that is starters-trance.....
Than the entire Magik-series.....and ofcours the ISOS-series...

When they're confortable to that, you can add the Armin and Paul van Dyk, some Chicane and Faithless.... Dash of Ferry....

I think than they're ready to find their ways on the path of trance.... But that's my opinion and my approach....

Thanks for that!! I was like when I checked out Astral Projection, totally dig this stuff. It's gonna make a killer racing game soundtrack too.

I would recommend Sasha, my first taste of trance was Xpander in Wip3out and had me hooked the first time I heard it. Apart from that, melodic stuff like Thompson & Holden's Nothing or Motorcycle's As the Rush Comes.

I think that you, the friend, should definitely be the dj that introduces them into trance. I have done so in the past and it has been so much better than giving them a cd from a big name dj.

Do not get me wrong, I am not saying that I am better than a big name dj; the only reason I say this is because YOU can show them how passionate someone can be about this music... YOU can relate to your own mixes and they can feed off that and find their own niche/genre.

While, yes, giving them a cd from a big name dj is one thing, you should remember that the big name dj cannot sit there with your friend and get into deep discussions about the music and how it's a genre that you can take what you feel from it, rather than mainstream where they sing the song and convey what THEY want you to hear.

But first and foremost, they would have to come to you (because nothing should be forced upon anyone). That's the most important thing.
