Hey how about you both get a job or do something creative instead of pissing away all your time arguing over opinions. Seriously, the argument has spun way off of the topic and the last 8 post have been b/w you two. If you guys want to continue this "LIVELY" discussion that you seem to think is so worthwhile exchange numbers or MSN names and take it up there.

...Which is exactly why I decided to stop debating him. BTW, I do have a part-time job and have been employed for a year now. Tonight just happened to be a night off for me. I've said all I have to say on this matter, so no further discussion will be done on my part.

However, at festivals where those who attend are more fimilar with trance and as a result dancing enjoy themselves. Unfortunetley, as you mention drugs are apart of thsi sceen. However,I do not agree with your comments on drugs = trance. Just becuase a few punk 17 yr. old kids do drugs doesnt mean the entire sceen is drug ladden.

Fair point. A valid compromise would be to say that drugs enable people to drop their inhibitions and habitual styles and just DO what they feel. That is why e + any form of dance music is so great. Noone cares for image. Its all about the music. Its a massive cliche and its also 100% true.

Clubbing should mean a time to enjoy yourself while listening so great music. Over time this idea has been replaced with todays modern societies version of "ultra-hip" "ultra- sleek" nightclubs which people feel cool and imporant getting into. But once inside all tehy do is walk around..look at each other...judge other peoples looks..try to hook up and/or get wasted. This is crasss tasteless society at its best!!! Trust me I know this sh!t. I ve been going clubbin since I was 18. And its the same shit all over.

Thus when you a DJ is trying to play something new and different the crowd is like WTF !!! They demand, as part of their understanding of what a club should be , too play music that will help in creating this scene. Its no longer about the music but just a show and an attempt ot make people feel like they are part of something "cool" and "exclusive".

Again I agree. And again I state the drugs as a reason why that is really the main reason why dance music has even got as popular as it has. I know people will disagree with me here but I can't help but feel its the truth. Everyone in western society is obsessed with image! One of the only things that combats this is a relaxing of inhibitions artifically. Sure you will get the odd person who does not give a f*ck what the other people think of them - but they are a minority. Most people are sheep.

You are also right about the dancing thing. It does require rhythm and skill. I STILL feel self conscious dancing until I'm either trashed or high. If I'm none of those I'll just groove away, not really getting into it holding back, still enjoying it however. Most of my mates who are not into dance music would not even get CLOSE to that. They are the mainstream. They go to rock gigs and jump and down (requires no skill). So you are entirely right. White boys CAN dance however so you are completely wrong on that one (however your point was taken). Also it does not help that most dance clubs arent always packed and if they arent, who has the guts to dance by themselves? Its different if you are packed in then noone notices you and you can blend in and enjoy it (so the 'sheep' are again ok and will get into it). I'm speaking from personal experience but also observations...

So how do you solve the above? Wait...WHY solve the above? Seriously, why? After all isn't being underground 'cool' anyway? I love the music more then I ever have today, and I know it will not change. The music coming out is greater then ever and it seems there are more and more great producers in EVERY genre weekly. Every week I make friends with more and more people who are getting into the scene. And you know what? I know very few people who grow out of dance culture. Even if they stop going out there will always be a gig sometime to draw them back in. The scene seems to be growing constantly.

And you know what even if it stops, who cares? Even if I'm the only one making prog in the whole WORLD, thats fine by me. Cos you know what someone I know will eventually like what this 'alternative music' I'm making, and we will ahve a party and then...and wait...oh thats how it all started

Excellent post.

Type of response I was hoping to provoke.
