Armin's big downfall is that although he always has amazing records in his bag, yet his programming can be all over the place. I've been to multiple sets of his where he'll play pretty much the same tracks, but the order and timing he plays them makes the huge difference.
When he did his 5+ hour set here in SF in April, his programming was fucking awesome....but I honestly don't think he really thinks hard about the programming...he's just such a happy dude and either gets real lucky with his programming or out of control. 
And with the sound, I was explicitely told to pay attention to the sound by GK/Spundae and report back...and I did, giving it a huge thumbs down...and the immediate reply shown was a little frustration and a then told that it will be taken care ASAP until the the brand spaking new, perm sound system is in place.
Even with the horribly tuned sound, Markus' set was just AH-MAZE-ZING. As I have told a few, I have dozens of GDJB sets and several live club sets by Markus, and his LA set was the best one I've heard to date.
Markus will be able to be brought out here as a major headliner someday if he just keeps it up. I think the key will be his cost vs. his exposure...is he affordable to bring out here as an opener or mid-card for occasions and stuff. I don't believe he can pull in a major crowd as a headliner just yet (his quality is there, no doubt, but it's more of the exposure problem), but if he really wants to make it out here...an area I have been told by many major DJs contains the most critical (aka anal) crowds anywhere in north america, Markus can. I was asked at least 25-30 times by random person who the heck he was and it was always for a good reason...and this was just people asking me, there's no telling how many others were wondering, too. The last person who I saw had a similar response was MarcoV when he played here in SF last Labor Day weekend after 99% of the crowd there had no idea who he was (most people came from BT that night), and the crowd that showed up for him this past memorial day weekend proved that people did not forget about him as he landed an atomic bomb on the roof of Ten15 and had the whole place going nuts until 6am, which was the latest I personally experience Ten15 going until since the scene here started suffering. And I am sure MarcoV could have still continue for a lot longer if he and the security were willing, but the security stopped him as it was a Monday morning. :-p
So yeah, no one has doubts about Markus' crowd pull-in potential, but he just needs to get more exposure. Hopefully he'll travel from the west coast from time to time, either in LA or SF (to work with the likes of G&D???) :-p and maybe tell GK/Spundae he'd like to play for them for a very little fee (or free) if it's by chance good timing and the music style is right for the night.
