Well since I lack the patience to search the thread and see if anyone posted the correct origin, Ill just go ahead and post it myself

To the best of my memory, woot is a bastardized way of saying "root," some old hacker term from 10-20 years ago refering to the root code or whatever in a program. Apparantly root itself was turned into somewhat of an elated remark
