Well, it seems that people like to think they have matured from trances cheesy melodies, to zabiela's cheesy effects, and "scratching" (if you want to call it that)

So now everybody thinks they are soooo 1337 and underground for liking a dj who is all the way underground at #11 on the dj poll (well 15 in 2004, 11 in 2003)

This is honestly very broad statement, but it does seem to me like people either like the tiesto/buuren/whatever, or they like zabiela.

Either way they have to realize that they are still mainstream cheeze lovers...theyve just switched from cheezy saws to cheezy fake scratches.

Now don't get me wrong, I love zabiela, but I dont think liking him gives you an excuse to bash people who still like the trance stuff...youre no better than them.

and you're sooooooo 1337 and underground for bashing zabiela

we do understand there's better skilled dj's out there thank you. well maybe there's some people who don't. personally i listen to him for the track selection and the way he makes the mixes flow, the effects and scratches are something minor. but that's just me.

Drugs were better throughout 98-02, hence the music sounded better

Trance seemingly has lost a lot of it's initial buildup these last years. Many producers and DJs are into the techy, dirty, and even indie sound(more live instruments). It's like anything else, there are stages in music where things fade away(from being overplayed). But then, they still come back in some other form. I wouldn't say it's completely gone though. Armin still plays, PVD still plays. I happen to also like Victor Dinaire if you've heard of him.

I think its mostly because people like for the producers they have known to make good tracks to make more and expect all of theyre tracks to be good. When a producer falls off a bit his audience is disappointed. Not saying the producer cant make a come back either. But there are other good producers that are less known that people may not know about that would blow the known producers tracks away. I dont think tracne is loosing its touch, I think its a matter or how hard you search for those quality tracks.

its about the attitude of some of the labels today i think. Original stuff is different and publishers don't know it it will sell. They are all on safe mode nowadays. I dont care much though because i like the uplifting trance of today.

I wasnt bashing him, If you read what I wrote I said "I love him". In no way did I put down Mr. Zabiela.

They are then taking these sounds and remaking classic tracks with them. In history this has been done but the main tracks which did it, age of love, cafe del mar etc, the remakes always were done by skilled pro's who offered a new take on the track, oliver lieb, j00f, pvd etc etc.

So in essence what you are saying is that "skilled pro's" are the only ones who can show innovation and emotion through their music, and that music should only be taken seriously if you use expensive hardware that not everyone can afford?

That's a rather ignorant viewpoint to take, in my opinion...

although I will never bash armin, one the all time sicknasty ch00ns:

Rising Star - Touch Me (Darude Mix) :

as for the current affairs of state - i think that too many people are too quick to label tracks as trance or not trance... and a lot (i mean A LOT) of TAs have some kind of aversion to other forms of EDM... i like all kinds of EDM (of course, except for explosive diarrhea like hardstyle), but i still think big things are going on... hard house and trance are kind of merging, and i effin love most live shit like RITM(except for last year's ultra), and i can't effin wait for NU-NRG this year at ultra...

hasn't EDM taught you anything about acceptance peeple???

no, but in the majority of cases it's true, I said also mate that it's people who use the presets, rather than forging sounds of their own or tweaking them much to the point where you can hear a 'reason' track in many ways

i will always agree with you ian on this topic because it's soooo true. what we have is too many people that either aren't very talented or don't reach their potential releasing a lot of tracks...there are very few really good professional producers around these and i think that the genre has suffered because of it...

on the other hand, some of the ameteur stuff floating around on the various netlables and whatnot is amazing and puts most of what passes for trance to shame.

Bedroom producers arent the problem, just the bedroom producers that you are listening to.

I am referring to nobody in particular, just those who blindly assume that trance is bad because of the people who make it that also have real jobs.
